Streetfinder
Overview
A photographer’s viewfinder on Street View: format, lens, rise and shift, level, grid, photo overlay, save the frame.
Streetfinder draws a camera frame over Google Maps Street View, to check what a given format and lens would show from a given spot before going there. The frame follows the settings: sensor or film format, focal length, and rise, fall or shift as on a view camera or a shift lens. The camera is kept level by default, so verticals stay parallel. Features: - Formats from APS-C and full frame to medium format, 4x5 and 8x10 sheet film, or a custom size. - Focal length set in the side panel, or by dragging an edge of the frame. It snaps to the standard lenses of the format. - Rise, fall and shift by dragging inside the frame, with a snap back to zero near the centre. - Landscape or portrait by turning a corner of the frame. - Frame lines for the next wider standard lens. - Step back: the frame as seen from a few meters behind the Street View car, exact on the plane of the subject. - A grid over the frame, up to 24 by 24. - A photo laid over the street, with its opacity on the frame, to find where it was taken from. - Save the frame, or the whole view with the frame drawn on it, as a JPEG. Google's controls are left out; a line underneath gives the lens, the shift, the position, the date of the imagery and the Google credit. - Keyboard: Alt+Shift+V turns the viewfinder on and off, Alt+Shift+S saves the frame. Streetfinder works on Google Maps in Chrome on a computer. It draws over Google's own Street View and does not download or store any imagery; the images belong to Google. There is no account and no data is collected or sent anywhere. Settings are stored in the browser. Streetfinder is not made by or affiliated with Google. v1.0.1 - Saving works: the JPEG goes to your downloads folder. - The camera button offers both pictures: the frame alone, or the whole view. - Zooming no longer makes the frame flicker, and the lens follows the zoom so the frame always fits. - Levelling no longer reloads the page on its own: the frame offers it on a click.
