New York City publishes what is being built, altered and demolished at every address. But that record lives somewhere other than the page where the question comes up. You are reading a rental listing, a news story about a building, or a thread about a block. Click the Street Futures icon and the public building record for the addresses on that page appears beside them. WHAT THE PANEL SHOWS • Every Department of Buildings filing at the address — status, scope and dates • What the parcel record says — year built, floors, units, lot and building area, zoning, landmark and historic-district status • Open and total violations recorded against the building • What is under construction within 200 metres • How busy the street is, measured against the rest of the city • A side-by-side comparison of two addresses found on the same page IT RUNS WHEN YOU CLICK IT Nothing happens on page load. There is no standing access to the sites you visit and no list of sites to opt in to. Clicking the toolbar icon, pressing Alt+Shift+N, or using the right-click menu item grants access to that one tab at that one moment — and nothing before or after. THE PAGE IS READ, NEVER SENT The extension finds an address in text you can already see and looks up that address. The page it came from is never transmitted: no URL, no title, no page text. There is no account, no sign-in and no identifier attached to a lookup. WORKS EVERYWHERE, WITH NO SITE-SPECIFIC CODE The detector reads text, not page structure. It works the same on a listing site, on the city's own portals, on a forum thread and on a news article — and nothing breaks when any of those sites change their markup. WHAT IT CANNOT TELL YOU A filing is paperwork, not a building. It records what was submitted to the city: many filings are approved and never started, some are withdrawn, and the dates describe when the record changed rather than when anything happened on site.
