Keep the words worth returning to. Strata lets you highlight webpage passages, add your own notes, and find them again in a searchable personal library. HIGHLIGHT AS YOU READ Select text and choose Highlight or Add note. Saved highlights return when you revisit the page, and your notes stay alongside the passage. Browse by article or search passages, notes, titles, and URLs. SYNC BETWEEN YOUR CHROME BROWSERS WITH NOTION Connect each Chrome installation to the same Strata notebook in Notion to sync saved web highlights, note edits, and deletions between them. Choose an existing supported notebook to restore its collection into a new profile, or create a new notebook. Sync runs while Chrome is running and the connection is available; offline changes wait until you reconnect. Competing note edits use the newer update timestamp. Edit notes in Strata to share changes between browsers. Direct edits inside Notion do not flow back as ongoing edits to Strata. Deleting a synced highlight in Strata removes its managed Notion passage and sends the deletion to other connected browsers. A browser offline long enough to miss the retained sync log may keep a deleted local highlight. Reconnecting resumes sync without repeating the initial restore. The Notion connection remains experimental. LOCAL WITHOUT NOTION Without Notion, your highlights and notes stay in the current Chrome profile. No Strata account is needed. Signing into Chrome alone does not transfer the library. Local-file highlights always stay local, even when Notion is connected. Uninstalling removes that profile's local data but does not delete its Notion notebook or other browsers' copies. RETURN TO THE SAVED PASSAGE Choose Open highlight to return to the quote in a browser with Strata and the corresponding saved record, including records received through the same notebook. Otherwise the article opens normally. Changed, missing, or ambiguous page text can prevent a precise jump. Saved links contain a record identifier, text position, timestamps, and surrounding text; sharing a link shares that information. PRIVACY Strata has no developer-operated backend, advertising, or analytics. The local library and Notion credentials are encrypted with AES-256-GCM; the key stays in the Chrome profile. This does not protect against someone controlling the full profile or device. Optional sync sends readable saved passages, notes, source URLs, titles, dates, placement information, and sync metadata directly to Notion over HTTPS. Review the access explanation before authorizing: Notion may grant access beyond the Strata notebook. Local encryption does not encrypt notebook content from Notion or people with access to it. UPGRADING FROM VERSION 1 Version 2 introduces a new library and notebook format. It removes the previous version 1 local library when first read and does not migrate it. Old notebook formats cannot be restored by version 2. Preserve any older collection you need before upgrading. PAGE SUPPORT Strata supports selectable text on ordinary webpages. Chrome internal pages, the Chrome Web Store, Chrome's built-in PDF viewer, images, and canvas text are not supported. Local-file highlighting requires Chrome's Allow access to file URLs setting.
