Story Link for Jira

Link an issue to a User Story right from Jira Server: one button, instant picker, undo. For Jira Server/DC 8.20+.

Story Link replaces Jira's slow native "Link" dialog for the single most common linking task: attaching an issue to its User Story. WHAT IT DOES • Adds a "⤴ Story" button to the issue action bar (optionally also to kanban board cards and issue navigator / backlog rows). • Click the button — a picker opens instantly with candidate stories, found through a four-step cascade: the issue's epic → the active sprint → the project's open stories → the project's recently updated stories. Type to filter locally and search the whole project at the same time. • Pick a story — the extension creates the link with the type and direction you configured once in the popup, then shows a toast with Undo. WHY Dragging every task into an Epic just to keep a rough grouping clutters the board and buries real epics under routine work. Story Link makes it just as fast to link a task to the User Story it actually belongs to, so the project stays structured without extra clicks. HOW IT WORKS • Uses your existing Jira Server session (browser cookies) — the extension never asks for or stores your password. • Talks only to the Jira Server/Data Center instance you type in and explicitly grant access to. No third-party servers, no analytics, no telemetry. • Everything it remembers (your Jira URL, link type, which surfaces are enabled, the short undo log, a 5-minute story cache) stays in chrome.storage on your machine. SETUP 1. Click the extension icon, enter your Jira Server URL (e.g. https://jira.company.com or https://company.com/jira). 2. Press "Save & connect" and grant the extension access to that domain. 3. Pick the link type/direction and tick which issue types count as a User Story in your instance (defaults to "Story" if present — reads the real type name from your Jira, not hardcoded). 4. Open any issue — the button appears in the action bar. REQUIREMENTS Jira Server or Data Center 8.20+. Does not work with Jira Cloud (different REST API / DOM). PERMISSIONS, IN PLAIN WORDS • storage — remembers your settings and the short undo log, locally. • scripting — injects the button/picker only into the Jira URL you specify, registered at runtime after you grant access (no access at install time). • host permission (optional, requested at runtime) — limited to the single Jira origin you type in; the extension has zero access to any other site until you ask it to.
