Stop Autofocus – Prevent Websites From Stealing Focus

Some websites decide where your cursor goes. You open a page and it drops you into its search box. You press a keyboard shortcut and the keystrokes land in a form instead. A widget loads late and the page jumps to it. Stop Autofocus puts that back under your control. Install it once and websites stop stealing your cursor. There is nothing to set up, no account, and no configuration — it works with sensible defaults from the moment you add it. WHAT IT DOES • Blocks HTML autofocus, so a page cannot claim your cursor as it loads • Blocks unsolicited JavaScript focus — the .focus() calls a site makes on its own initiative • Stops the page from jumping when an off-screen field grabs focus • Handles fields that appear after the page has loaded, including on React, Vue and Angular sites and single-page apps that swap views as you navigate • Keeps working when a site retries in a loop instead of taking no for an answer • Reaches inside Shadow DOM components and into iframes IT DOES NOT BREAK NORMAL BROWSING Focus you asked for always works. Click into a field and the cursor lands there. Tab into it and the cursor lands there. Press a key that a site handles by opening its search overlay, and the search box focuses normally. The extension tells the difference using the browser's own signal for genuine human input, which page scripts cannot fake. Anything that follows something you actually did is allowed through. Anything a site does on its own is not. PER-SITE CONTROL Some sites are better with their own focus behavior — a web-based editor, a terminal, a chat app you live in. Click the toolbar icon and switch protection off for that site. The choice is remembered, applies every time you return, and the toolbar badge shows OFF so you always know where you stand. The settings page lists every site you have disabled, with search, one-click removal and a clear-all button. PRIVACY No servers. No accounts. No analytics. No tracking. No external requests of any kind. Stop Autofocus never reads page content, form values or anything you type, and it never records the sites you visit. The only things saved are your own switches and the list of domains you chose to disable, stored locally in Chrome on your computer. Nothing ever leaves your device. Permissions are kept to the minimum that the job requires: storage, for those settings, and activeTab, so the popup can show the current site's name when you click the icon. There is no "tabs" permission and no background access to your browsing.
