Understand the NYC building behind an apartment listing—without leaving StreetEasy. When you open a supported StreetEasy rental or sale listing, StoopKit checks available NYC housing and building records and adds a clear building summary directly to the page. WHAT STOOPKIT SHOWS • A simple green, yellow, or red building summary • Recent and repeated resident complaint patterns • Open housing violations, including hazard classifications • Building-level rent-stabilization indicators • The date, reported unit, and status of supporting public records • Clear flags when an HPD record remains open • Clear flags when an inspection resulted in a violation EXPANDABLE ISSUE DETAILS Open any notable building issue to review all relevant supporting records in a scrollable panel. Records use plain-language descriptions such as “No hot water,” “Sewage backup,” or “Electrical problem” instead of relying on unfamiliar HPD terminology. When a public record matches the apartment shown in the listing, StoopKit places it first and labels it “This apartment.” This matching happens locally in your browser. RENT-STABILIZATION INDICATORS StoopKit can identify buildings that appear in public HCR registration-derived building lists. It can also show “May be rent stabilized” when a non-condo or non-co-op building has common age-and-size indicators. These are building-level research signals, not legal determinations about a particular apartment. Always confirm an apartment’s status through its lease, rent history, or the appropriate government agency. PRIVACY StoopKit does not require an account and does not collect StreetEasy credentials, saved listings, private messages, or payment information. The normalized building address is used only to retrieve and temporarily cache the public-record analysis needed for StoopKit’s building summary. StoopKit does not sell user data or use browsing activity for advertising, unrelated profiling, or credit decisions. The optional feedback feature prepares an email containing relevant listing context. Nothing is sent unless you review and send the email yourself. To provide this feature, StoopKit reads the building address displayed on the listing and sends the normalized building address to StoopKit’s secure service hosted by Render. If the listing includes an apartment number, StoopKit uses it only on your device to prioritize relevant public records; the apartment number is not sent to the StoopKit service. IMPORTANT LIMITATIONS Public records may be delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, or subsequently changed. A closed record does not prove that a physical condition has been corrected, and a complaint does not necessarily establish that a condition existed. StoopKit is an informational research tool. It is not a building inspection, engineering assessment, legal opinion, housing-status determination, or guarantee of current building conditions.
