Steroid
Overview
A command palette for Chrome, inspired by IntelliJ's Shift+Shift.
Press Shift+Shift on any page. A command palette opens. Steroid brings the command palette inspired by modern code editors to Chrome, so you can find a tab, run an action or organise your windows without reaching for the mouse or squinting at a row of 40 unreadable tab favicons. FIND ANY TAB, INSTANTLY • Fuzzy search across every open tab by title or URL • Results are ordered by how recently you visited each tab, so the tab you want is usually first • Arrow keys to move, Enter to switch, and ` (backtick) to close a tab straight from the results • "Previous Tab" jumps back to where you just were, and shows you where that is before you commit TAB AND WINDOW MANAGEMENT • Close multiple tabs at once • Close duplicate tabs, a problem most people don't notice until they look • Create and name tab groups, or ungroup everything in one command • Smart Group (optional): organises your open tabs into named groups and windows for you SEARCH AND NAVIGATE • Type "s" followed by your query, then pick which search engine to send it to • Paste or type a URL and press Enter to open it in a new tab • Eight engines are set up out of the box, covering general web, video, code and reference search, and the list is configurable if you prefer others WHERE IT WORKS, AND WHERE IT CAN'T Steroid opens on ordinary web pages. Shift+Shift will not work on the New Tab page, on chrome:// pages such as Settings or History. This is a browser restriction. Local files (file:/// URLs) need one extra step: open chrome://extensions, click Details on Steroid, and turn on "Allow access to file URLs". ABOUT YOUR DATA Steroid has no server, no analytics, no telemetry and no ads. Your tabs and your browsing stay on your machine. The one exception is opt-in: the Smart Group command sends your tab titles and URLs to OpenAI to work out sensible groupings. It uses an OpenAI API key that you supply yourself, it runs only when you explicitly invoke it, and if you never set a key, Steroid makes no network requests at all.
