Stepless — Accessibility Checker & Reports
Overview
Scan any page for WCAG and European Accessibility Act issues, then export a client-ready report. Runs entirely in your browser.
Stepless turns an accessibility check into something you can bill for. Click once and it scans the page you are on using axe-core — the same engine behind Google Lighthouse — then tells you which WCAG 2.2 success criteria the page fails, who those failures shut out, and how much work each fix is. Then it exports a report you can send straight to a client. WHAT MAKES THE REPORT DIFFERENT Most accessibility tools are built for developers and output rule IDs. A client does not read rule IDs. Every finding in Stepless names the specific standard that was missed and the human being blocked — "screen reader users hear nothing where this image should convey meaning" rather than "image-alt violation". The report is one self-contained HTML file. No dependencies, no hosting, nothing that breaks when it arrives as an email attachment. Open it in any browser and print to PDF. Add your own company name and it goes out under your brand. BUILT FOR THE COMPLIANCE DEADLINE The European Accessibility Act became enforceable in June 2025. It applies to any company with 10 or more employees, or €2 million or more in turnover, that sells to EU consumers — including companies based outside Europe. Penalties run from roughly €60,000 to €900,000 depending on the member state, and enforcement activity began in late 2025. If you audit websites for a living, that deadline is a pipeline. This turns each audit into a deliverable in about a minute. RUNS ENTIRELY IN YOUR BROWSER There is no server. The scan happens in the page, the report is built in the page, and nothing is ever uploaded. No account, no sign-in, no analytics, no telemetry. The extension holds no permission for any site you browse — it can only look at a tab in the moment you ask it to scan one. WHAT YOU GET • One-click scan against WCAG 2.0, 2.1, and 2.2 at levels A and AA • Findings grouped by severity, ordered by what to fix first • The exact WCAG success criteria that failed • Plain-English explanation of who each issue affects • Remediation effort for every finding, so you can quote accurately • Precise CSS selectors and markup snippets for your developers • Self-contained, brandable HTML report that prints to PDF • A copyable text summary for email and tickets FREE AND PRO Free: unlimited scans, three report exports per month. Pro: unlimited exports, your own branding, no footer credit. AN HONEST LIMITATION Automated testing reliably detects roughly a third of WCAG issues. No tool can judge whether alt text is meaningful, whether focus order is logical, or whether content makes sense read aloud. Stepless states this in every report it generates, because a conformance claim that overstates its evidence is worth less than no claim at all. Use it to find the mechanical failures fast, then review the rest by hand. Powered by axe-core by Deque Systems, used unmodified under the Mozilla Public License 2.0.
