Overview

A water companion that dries up as you chat with AI.

Starvy is a cute little creature made of water that lives right next to your AI chat. Every reply you get drinks a bit of his water. Chat a lot and he gets thirsty, wobbly, then faints dramatically. Take a break and he refills. It's a playful way to see something we never see: AI runs in data centers that use real water to cool down. Starvy turns that invisible cost into a tiny friend you actually care about. HOW IT WORKS • Starvy appears on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Mistral, at the bottom of the chat window. • He watches each reply being written and drains a little: longer threads, bigger models, generated images and deep reasoning drink more. • From fresh to dried out: 4 energy states and 12 moods and animations, from cheering to a dramatic faint (then a brand-new Starvy appears). • Take a break: he refills about 4% an hour while you're away. Rain clouds show up, you can walk him under them. • Friendly tips, not guilt: group your questions, start a new chat for a new topic, pick a lighter model, ask for the format up front. • The popup shows today's water, the last 7 days, and lets you switch between published estimates (Li et al. 2023, Mistral 2025, Altman 2025, Google 2025). They disagree by two orders of magnitude, and that's part of the point. ABOUT THE NUMBERS A heavy day of AI chat is about one litre of water by our calibration. All figures are estimates, shown as such in the extension. PRIVACY Starvy runs entirely in your browser. No account, no AI, no tracking. It only counts the length of the messages on the page to estimate water use, and stores its state locally on your computer. Nothing is sent anywhere. Stay mindful. Keep Starvy full.
