Overview

Click or press Alt+Shift+S: a squirrel appears in one of nine seasonal scenes, spots you watching, and bolts.

SQUIRREL! We've all been there: mid-conversation, or in the middle of something, when someone suddenly jumps to a completely different topic with no lead-in. It's like a dog that locks onto a squirrel and instantly forgets everything else. Squirrel Surprise is that moment, on demand. When the conversation (or your own brain) swerves off-topic, click the acorn button or press Alt+Shift+S and a squirrel takes over your screen. It's a light-hearted way to say "we just squirreled", and gives everyone a few seconds to laugh, notice the jump, and decide whether to chase the new idea or get back on track. Like the real thing, the squirrel doesn't stick around. It forages, sits up with an acorn and hops about, then it spots you. It freezes, sounds the alarm (chip! chip! chip! chirp!), drops its acorn, and escapes: dashing off-screen, zigzagging, doubling back, scrambling up a tree, or leaping onto a fence and running along the top. Then your page comes right back. FEATURES • 9 scenes: woods, backyard, city park, meadow, creek, mountain pines, farm, garden wall, city street • Every scene matches the current season: spring blossoms, summer green, autumn leaves or winter snow • Random behavior every time, with 5 different escape routes • Animated alarm call, plus an optional sound effect • Move the mouse, click, scroll or press a key and it spots you sooner • Press Esc or double-click to close it instantly • Options: pick a favorite scene or season, or let it choose PRIVACY Squirrel Surprise collects no data and makes no network requests. It only runs on the tab where you click the button or press the shortcut, and only saves your own settings (scene, season, sound) in your browser. The keyboard shortcut can be changed at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.
