Squash Tab

Replaces the new tab page with a view of your open tabs, grouped by site, so you can jump to a tab or close a group.

Squash Tab replaces Chrome's new tab page with a view of the tabs you already have open. Tabs are grouped by the site they came from. Pages you tend to leave open permanently — an email inbox, a social feed, a code host's home page — are collected into one group at the top, separately from the pages you are actually reading. Local development servers are listed with their port numbers so you can tell projects apart. From that view you can: - Click a tab's title to switch to it, in whichever window it is in. - Close a whole group at once when you are finished with it. - See when the same page is open more than once, and close the extra copies. - Collapse a group you do not need to see. Collapsed groups stay collapsed next time. - Move tabs into a folder you name, which is mirrored as a Chrome tab group. - Put a tab on a "Saved for later" list, then close it. The toolbar icon shows how many tabs are currently open. About search: the new tab page includes a search box. Text typed into it is passed to Chrome's search API, which sends it to whichever search engine you have selected in Chrome's settings. Squash Tab does not set, change, override or read your default search engine. About your data: Squash Tab reads your open tabs in order to display them, and stores your saved-tab list in Chrome's local storage on your own computer. There is no server and no account, and no data is sent anywhere. Site icons come from Chrome's local icon cache rather than an external service.
