When you reach a cart or checkout page on any supported retailer, Spotsavr silently activates in the background, searches its database of verified promo codes, and tests them one by one in the coupon field — automatically applying the code that saves you the most money. No copying, no pasting, no hunting through expired code sites. Spotsavr does the work for you. HOW IT WORKS Install & Browse Normally Add Spotsavr to Chrome and keep shopping the way you always do. There is nothing to configure. The extension runs quietly in the background and only activates when it detects you are on a checkout or cart page. Automatic Checkout Detection Spotsavr uses intelligent URL pattern matching to identify checkout, cart, bag, and basket pages across thousands of online stores. When a checkout page is detected, the extension checks its coupon database for codes that match the retailer you are shopping at. Code Testing & Application If matching codes are found, Spotsavr automatically enters each code into the retailer's coupon or promo code input field, tests it against your cart, and measures the discount. This allows the extension to work across browser sessions without requiring you to reconfigure or re-authenticate each time. No browsing data or third-party site data is stored. Cookies — Used exclusively to read first-party cookies on the spotsavr.com domain to maintain your authenticated session between the extension and the Spotsavr web application. If you are logged in on spotsavr.com, the extension can recognise your session so you do not need to log in again separately. The extension does not read or access cookies on any other website. Notifications — Used to display a desktop notification when a working coupon code has been found and applied during checkout. This gives you immediate, clear feedback that a discount has been applied. Notifications are only triggered in direct response to a checkout event and are never used for advertising or unsolicited messaging. Active Tab — Used to access the URL and page content of your current tab only when you actively interact with the extension (by clicking the toolbar icon or using the popup). This allows the extension to determine whether you are on a checkout page and, if so, to locate the coupon input field to test codes. The extension does not access any tab content passively or in the background. Host Permission (spotsavr.com) — Used to communicate with Spotsavr's own API servers for retrieving coupon code data, authenticating your account, and syncing your preferences. All network requests go exclusively to Spotsavr-owned servers. No third-party servers are contacted. Content Script (all URLs) — The content script runs on all pages to detect checkout and cart URLs using local pattern matching. If the current page is not a checkout page, the script takes no action and does not interact with the page. On confirmed checkout pages, the script reads the coupon input field to test and apply discount codes. This broad match is necessary because Spotsavr supports thousands of online stores, and maintaining a static list of every supported domain would be impractical and would degrade your experience as new stores are added. SECURITY & CODE INTEGRITY Spotsavr is built to meet the highest standards required by the Chrome Web Store: • No Remote Code Execution — The extension does not use eval(), new Function(), or any form of dynamic code execution. All code is bundled locally within the extension package. • No External Scripts — The extension does not load any scripts from external servers, CDNs, or third-party sources. All JavaScript is local. • XSS Protection — All dynamic content rendered in the extension UI is sanitised through a dedicated escapeHtml() function that neutralises HTML entities, preventing cross-site scripting attacks. • Manifest V3 — Spotsavr is built on Manifest V3, Chrome's latest and most secure extension platform. This includes the default Content Security Policy enforced by MV3, a service worker-based background script (no persistent background page), and declarative permission handling. • Human-Readable Source — The extension source code is not minified or obfuscated.
