SpeedReader Pro applies a bionic-reading overlay to any article you read on the web. It bolds the first few characters of every word — the "fixation points" your eyes actually land on — so your brain can complete each word faster and your reading pace picks up without any change in comprehension. Turn it on, read, turn it off. The original page comes straight back. WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT • Layout-safe by design. SpeedReader never writes raw HTML into the page. Every change is made with precise DOM node replacement, so site event listeners, React and Vue bindings, buttons, forms, and click targets all keep working. • Perfectly reversible. Switching off restores the exact original text — character for character, no page refresh needed. • No lag on long articles. Text is processed in small batches during the browser's idle time, so even a very long page never freezes or stutters. • Keeps up with infinite scroll. Content that loads as you scroll gets the same treatment automatically while the overlay is active. • Adjustable fixation strength. A 30–70% slider controls how much of each word gets bolded, with a live preview in the popup so you can dial it in before it touches the page. • Per-site memory. Tick "Remember for this site" and your settings come back the next time you open the popup there. • Leaves code and quotes alone. Code blocks, preformatted text, form fields, and editable regions are skipped, so nothing you might copy gets corrupted. PRIVACY SpeedReader Pro collects nothing. No account, no analytics, no telemetry, no servers. Your reading preferences are stored by Chrome on your own device and never leave your browser. The extension requests no broad website permissions — it only gets temporary access to the one tab you are on, at the moment you click its toolbar button. HOW TO USE 1. Open any article. 2. Click the SpeedReader Pro icon in your toolbar. 3. Flip "Toggle SpeedReader". 4. Adjust Fixation Strength to taste. An "ON" badge on the toolbar icon shows when the overlay is active. NOTE ON HOW IT ACTIVATES Because SpeedReader deliberately avoids broad site permissions, it cannot start itself automatically when a page loads. Remembered settings are re-applied when you open the popup on that site. This is a privacy trade-off made on purpose: the extension has no standing access to anything you browse.
