SpeakPeek
Overview
Learn pronunciation by hearing any text on any webpage. Hover or select text to hear it spoken aloud.
SpeakPeek turns any webpage into a pronunciation tutor. Hover over a word or select a phrase and hear it read aloud instantly — with optional phonetic symbols (IPA for English, pinyin for Chinese) and a short definition, so you learn the sound and the meaning at the same time. Perfect for language learners, students, and anyone who reads in more than one language. — WHAT IT DOES — • Hover to speak — point at a word and a Speak button appears; click it or press Enter to listen. • Select to speak — highlight any text and speak the whole selection. • Right-click menu — "Speak with SpeakPeek" on any selection. • Phonetics — see IPA for English and pinyin for Chinese (pinyin works fully offline); other scripts use a dictionary fallback. • Definitions — show a concise meaning right next to the word. • Keyboard mode — move word by word with the arrow keys, build up a phrase, and speak it without touching the mouse. • Keyboard shortcuts — speak the selection, stop speaking, or toggle keyboard mode; all rebindable on your browser's shortcuts page. • Your voice, your pace — choose any installed system voice and adjust speed and pitch. • Follows your system light/dark theme. • Settings sync across the browsers you're signed in to. — LANGUAGES — The interface is available in English, German, Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Speech works with any voice your operating system provides. — DEFAULT SHORTCUTS (rebindable) — • Speak selection or hovered word: Ctrl+Shift+E (⌘+Shift+E on Mac) • Stop speaking: Ctrl+Shift+X (⌘+Shift+X on Mac) • Toggle keyboard selection mode: Ctrl+Shift+K (⌘+Shift+K on Mac) — PRIVACY — SpeakPeek does not collect, store, or sell any personal data, and it has no analytics or tracking. Speech is produced by your browser's built-in voices. Phonetics and definitions are optional and off by default; when you turn them on, only the single word you look up is sent to public dictionary services (Free Dictionary API and Wiktionary) to fetch its pronunciation or meaning. Chinese pinyin is generated entirely on your device. Made for learners. Hear it, see it, say it.
