SourceGlass — Citation Provenance Studio
Overview
Extract webpage citation evidence, resolve metadata conflicts, and format citations locally.
A citation is only as trustworthy as the metadata behind it. SourceGlass inspects the regular webpage you choose, opens a focused full-tab studio, and shows exactly where each title, author, date, website name, publisher, and canonical URL came from. If a page’s Highwire, Schema.org, Dublin Core, Open Graph, and HTML signals disagree, SourceGlass shows the conflict instead of hiding it. ### What you can do - Inspect webpage metadata only when you click the toolbar icon - Compare candidate values and their source types - Correct any field manually - Generate deterministic webpage citations in APA 7, MLA 9, and Chicago 18 - Export the reviewed record as BibTeX or RIS - Copy a citation or a structured field record - Explicitly save up to 100 citation records on this device - Delete one saved record or clear all SourceGlass data ### Designed for informed review SourceGlass does not claim that embedded page metadata is correct. Its field evidence, conflict badges, and completeness meter make missing or contradictory inputs visible. The output is a deterministic aid for webpage citations; review it against the requirements of your instructor, editor, or style guide. ### Private by architecture There is no account, telemetry, analytics, advertising, affiliate program, remote code, AI, or citation lookup server. Temporary page evidence is consumed once by the studio and is not added to the saved library unless you explicitly choose **Save locally**. ### Deliberate limits SourceGlass does not inspect PDFs, Chrome internal pages, extension pages, local files, DOI records, ISBN records, or paywalled metadata services. It does not search the web, infer missing facts with AI, or guarantee that a source publisher’s metadata is accurate. ## Support notes - Supported: ordinary HTTP and HTTPS webpages that Chrome permits an extension to inspect. - Unsupported by design: `chrome://` pages, Chrome Web Store pages, extension pages, `file://` pages, and PDF documents. - SourceGlass makes no network requests.
