SourceBraid
Overview
Save articles, papers, wikis, Gists, and PDFs as clean Markdown in your private GitHub repository.
SourceBraid turns web sources into portable Markdown that stays under your control. Save articles, research papers, wiki pages, GitHub Gists, and PDF documents from the active tab directly to your own private GitHub repository. Add tags and notes. SourceBraid preserves source URLs and available metadata in YAML frontmatter, stores relevant images beside the Markdown, and records changes in Git history. Features: • Save web articles, papers, wikis, and GitHub Gists as Markdown • Add tags and personal notes • Preserve source URLs and available metadata • Archive relevant images alongside the article • Convert PDFs to structured Markdown through the included GitHub Actions workflow • Download ordinary web pages as local Markdown files • Export repository configuration without credentials for the optional SourceBraid plugin The Chrome extension sends captures directly to GitHub. No SourceBraid server is required for capture. It collects no analytics and does not monitor your browsing history in the background. Full page content is captured only when you explicitly start saving or downloading. Credentials are stored locally in Chrome. GitHub tokens are sent exclusively to GitHub endpoints. Optional Ghost and Blogger APIs are used only when you configure them. Saving to GitHub requires a GitHub account, a private repository, and a fine-grained token with “Contents: Read and write”. Installing the PDF workflow for the first time additionally requires “Workflows: Read and write”. Local Markdown downloads of ordinary web pages work without GitHub credentials. PDF download fallback is not available. The extension interface is currently English. An optional ChatGPT connection is separate and is not required for Chrome capture. SourceBraid is open source under the MIT License. Capture only material you are authorized to save.
