Overview

See who's behind a page, when it was published and updated, and whether the research it cites has been retracted.

Don't get burned by a bad source. Source Check shows you who's behind any web page, and whether the research it relies on still holds up, in one click. You find an article that backs up your point. But who wrote it? Is the site two months old? Has the study it quotes been retracted? Answering that by hand takes 15 minutes of digging. Source Check does it in seconds, right where you're reading. WHY INSTALL IT • Avoid citing retracted research. Thousands of papers are retracted every year, and many keep getting cited long after. Source Check flags them before they end up in your paper, report or post. • Spot sketchy sites fast. A brand-new domain, no named author or no publish date are classic warning signs, and Source Check points them out. • Judge for yourself. You get the facts behind each warning, never a mystery "trust score" from an algorithm. WHAT IT CHECKS Click the icon on any article, blog post or research paper to see: • Who's behind it: the publisher, the author, when the website's domain was first registered, and links to its About and Contact pages • Dates: when the page was published and last updated • Research citations: every paper the page cites (by DOI) is checked against Crossref, which includes the Retraction Watch database. Retractions, withdrawals, publisher warnings and corrections are flagged, with a link to each official notice. • Things to note: a short summary at the top, such as "Cites 1 retracted paper" or "Domain was registered 2 months ago" WHO IT'S FOR • Students checking sources before they cite them • Researchers and academics reviewing literature • Journalists and fact-checkers • Anyone deciding whether to trust or share what they read online PRIVATE BY DESIGN • Runs only when you click it, and only on the tab you're viewing • No account, no tracking, nothing stored • Only the site's domain name and the paper IDs on the page are sent to public lookup services (rdap.org and Crossref) Free, with no ads. Retraction data comes from Crossref and Retraction Watch. Domain data comes from public registry records. Source Check is independent and not affiliated with either.
