Soundstage
Overview
A visualizer / playing mode for SoundCloud. Toggle from the player bar, keep the waveform, show or hide comments.
Soundstage turns SoundCloud into a playing mode. While a track is playing, open it from the player bar. The page becomes a full-screen visualizer. The SoundCloud play bar stays. The waveform stays at the bottom, with a live oscilloscope over it. Four visualizers • Pulse — a glowing wireframe orb that bends with the music • Ridge — receding spectrum ridges, Joy Division–style • Bloom — a particle nebula that breathes with bass • Magnetosphere — a cinematic take on the classic iTunes visualizer: charged particles, trails, black cores, atmosphere Cycle visualizers with V, or from the HUD. Hide comments, hide the waveform, or open knobs (T) to tune the active mode. Comments Timed comments can sit on the waveform, pop as bubbles, and list on the right. Turn them off with C. Audio Soundstage reads audio in the tab so the visuals can follow the music. Capture stays in the browser. Nothing is uploaded. Privacy No accounts. No analytics. Preferences stay in chrome.storage.local. See the privacy policy on the GitHub repository. This project is unofficial and is not affiliated with, endorsed, or sponsored by SoundCloud Ltd. Changelog 1.8.0 Changes since 1.7.5 Rebuilt audio analysis. Replaced the old AnalyserNode polling loop with a dedicated AudioWorklet-based engine that tracks onsets, tempo, and beat phase, not just raw levels. Visuals now lock to the beat instead of just reacting to volume. More physical motion. Visualizers drive motion through spring/impulse physics rather than mapping audio straight to position, so hits punch and settle instead of jittering frame to frame. Ridge: added a bright leading edge line at the front of the ridge, plus general rendering/performance cleanup. Magnetosphere: reworked the bloom/aura post-processing pass, softened edges to fix visible aliasing, and consolidated the “Reflect” / “Reflect flow” knobs into one. Fixed a player-bar chrome-hiding bug where the SoundCloud UI could get stuck showing (or hidden) after toggling the waveform. Refreshed the extension icon art and added a 512px icon. Added an internal test suite covering the audio engine and motion system (no user-facing change, but should mean fewer regressions going forward).
