SortYourInbox - Sorting for Gmail
Overview
Sort loaded Gmail conversations with a simple floating widget, advanced views, local themes, and sorting that resets by default.
Sort Gmail conversations on your currently loaded page with a simple floating widget or an advanced set of controls. Free to use, with no ads, subscriptions, or paid upgrades. SORT YOUR WAY • Subject: A-Z or Z-A • Sender name or available sender email address: A-Z or Z-A • Date: newest or oldest first • Unread or read first • Starred or unstarred first • Attachments or no attachments first • Two-level sorting, such as sender name followed by newest date SIMPLE, ADVANCED, OR TOOLBAR Simple view keeps things small: a sorting dropdown with move, expand, settings, and minimize controls. Advanced adds secondary sorting, combined filters, temporary text filtering, presets, and reusable named views. Toolbar offers a wider compact layout for frequently used controls. MAKE IT YOURS • Choose light, dark, or system theme • Customize accent and background colors • Adjust fonts, text size, spacing, corners, and shadow • Drag the widget, dock it to a corner, or resize the advanced panel • Use keyboard controls to move and resize • Export and import your settings • Optionally hide Re:, Fw:, and Fwd: in the message list without changing actual email subjects The widget can temporarily reposition or tuck away around recognized compose windows and side panels, then return to your preferred placement. START FRESH OR REMEMBER YOUR VIEW Sorting resets on page changes and reloads by default. Optional settings retain your view across pages in one tab or across reloads. Appearance, placement, and named views are saved locally. Optional remembered sorting is stored separately for Gmail’s numbered account slots, which can change after signing out. WORKS ACROSS GMAIL Sort loaded conversations in supported inboxes, categories, labels, standard mail folders, and search results. Separate inbox sections stay separate. SELECTION AND GMAIL ACTIONS Opening a conversation or checking a checkbox returns the list to Gmail order before Gmail handles the action. Shift-click in a sorted view first clears the view. Select All while filters hide rows first clears the filters without selecting those hidden messages. Review the full list and repeat the gesture to make your selection. Choose Gmail order at any time to clear sorting and visual filters. PRIVACY After you enable local sorting, message-list subjects, sender names, available sender addresses, dates, and message indicators are processed locally in your browser. The extension does not read message bodies or upload email information to the developer or third parties. Chrome’s local extension storage saves preferences, named views, and optional remembered sorting. Typed text filters and extracted message-list information are not automatically saved. No analytics, remote code, remote fonts, additional account, or Gmail API authorization. Access to mail.google.com allows the widget to read the list information needed for sorting and filtering. Storage permission saves your settings. PLEASE NOTE Sorting and filtering apply to conversations Gmail has loaded on the current page, not your entire mailbox across multiple pages. Filters hide rows visually; they do not change Gmail’s server-side order. Date sorting supports recognized English and localized date formats from Gmail’s available full-date tooltips. Unavailable or unsupported dates stay last. Sender email sorting depends on addresses available in loaded rows. Gmail keyboard navigation uses Gmail’s own ordering. Gmail interface changes may require extension updates. The widget interface is English. SortYourInbox is independently developed and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google.
