The Genesis game, compatible emulator core, and required runtime files are packaged inside the extension, so the main game does not download executable code or an emulator core while running. The original game is always the default and dominant mode. Click Start Game, press Enter, then run, jump, Spin Dash, collect rings, and race through the original adventure with Sonic and Tails.
