SocketTap - WebSocket Inspector & Debugger
Overview
See, edit and redirect WebSocket traffic in Chrome DevTools. Socket.IO, STOMP, SignalR and graphql-ws decoded, or add your own.
SocketTap is a WebSocket inspector inside Chrome DevTools. Socket.IO, STOMP, SignalR (JSON and MessagePack) and graphql-ws decode into readable messages the moment traffic flows. A custom decoder in a few lines of JavaScript covers any other text or binary protocol. A rule picks its messages by socket URL, direction and a filter over the decoded fields, and it delays, blocks, mocks, rewrites or redirects only those messages, never the whole socket. The panel sits next to Elements and Network, where you inspect, intercept and debug ws and wss traffic without leaving the browser. There is no proxy to run, no certificate to install and no change to your app. Open DevTools on any page and the frames are there. And it can do a lot more... == Features == ✓ Protocol decoding - Socket.IO, STOMP, SignalR (JSON and MessagePack) and graphql-ws, the transport behind GraphQL subscriptions, are recognized as soon as traffic starts flowing, and every frame shows as a message you can read ✓ Custom decoders - describe your own text or binary protocol in a few lines of JavaScript ✓ Rules that match single messages - a rule matches on socket URL, direction and decoded fields, and leaves the rest of the socket alone ✓ Delay a message while the ones behind it pass, to see how your app handles messages that arrive out of order. Hold every message behind it instead, to see how it behaves on a slow connection ✓ Block a message to see what your app does when it never arrives ✓ Mock a response in the socket's own protocol, like the error your backend almost never sends ✓ Rewrite a message in JavaScript before your app or your server sees it, on the decoded message or on the raw frame ✓ Right-click any frame to block the ones like it, mock a response to it, or start a rule from its fields ✓ Uplinks - redirect a deployed app's WebSocket traffic to localhost and work on one feature with live traffic, without running the whole stack. Send a copy instead of redirecting when the real backend should keep receiving the original ✓ Composer - build a frame field by field and send it into the page or up to the server ✓ Filtering - search frames by free text, by properties like direction or event name, or with regular expressions, negated terms and numeric comparisons ✓ Autocomplete suggests filter values from the traffic you captured ✓ Saved filters keep the searches you run every day one click away ✓ One timeline shows every socket on the page, and a click narrows it to a single connection ✓ Reply tracking - pick a frame and see the response it triggered and every message from the same subscription ✓ Pinned frames stay in view while the stream scrolls ✓ Session export - save a capture to a file and open it later or hand it to a colleague ✓ Works on encrypted wss connections the same as plain ws == Free and Pro == The free version is a complete inspector: it reads, decodes and filters every frame your page sends and receives. Pro adds editing, rules and uplinks for developers who do more than read. Pricing: https://sockettap.dev/pricing == Why does SocketTap need permission to "read and change all your data on all websites"? == SocketTap has to see the WebSocket frames on whatever site you are debugging to show and rewrite them. It captures, decodes and rewrites frames inside your browser. You decide where your traffic goes, and a frame leaves your machine only when you forward it to a server you chose. SocketTap does not collect your traffic, your data or your browsing activity.
