Overview

Filter Reddit by text, author, community, flair and domain. Reversible rules, optional comments and local backups.

SocialFilter gives you local control over what appears while you browse Reddit. Keep the familiar compact popup: add a keyword, block a subreddit or Reddit username, pause filtering, and see local filtered-item counts. Open the full rule manager for more control. RULES THAT FIT YOUR FEED • Match post titles, bodies, combined text, flair, communities, authors, link domains, post IDs and post types. • Filter comment text when you enable comment filtering. • Choose contains, whole word or phrase, exact value, starts with or ends with matching. • Use optional case-sensitive matching. • Apply a rule everywhere, only in selected communities, or everywhere except selected communities. • Add allow exceptions that take priority over block rules. • Search, edit, enable, disable and remove individual rules. CONTROL WHILE YOU BROWSE • Use SocialFilter's own post controls to block a post, author, community, flair or link domain. • See why content was hidden, show it once, or disable its matching rule. • Choose whether hidden posts and promoted ads leave a notice or disappear completely, directly in Settings. Your choice is saved. • Keep directly opened main posts visible by default. Comment filtering is separate and off by default. • Pause filtering for 15 minutes and resume whenever you want. PREFERENCES AND BACKUPS • Hide promoted posts, NSFW posts or spoilers. • Hide post media or avatars, or mask displayed author names locally. • Choose dark, light or system appearance for the SocialFilter interface. The familiar dark design is the default. • Test a sample against the same matcher used during browsing. • Export rules and preferences as JSON. Merge a backup into your current rules or replace rules and preferences. • Invalid backup data is rejected without partially changing your saved filters. REDDIT ONLY. LOCAL BY DESIGN. SocialFilter 6 focuses on Reddit. Rules, preferences and counters stay in local extension storage. No account, tracking, remote filtering service or remotely loaded code is required. Existing Reddit keyword and subreddit filters are migrated. Legacy X and Facebook accounts are not turned into Reddit username rules. SocialFilter hides content locally; it does not block accounts through Reddit or submit actions to Reddit. SocialFilter is an independent extension and is not affiliated with Reddit.
