As a Snowplow co-founder I was a bit old school - bring up Developer tools and eyeball the Network requests tab directly. Hello tp2! But I was hugely missing out - the Snowplow Inspector is *excellent*, and once you start using it you can't go back. Big thanks to the Snowplow Australia team (formerly Poplin) for creating this!

Why does it need access to passwords, browsing history, geolocation, etc.? Great functionality but be careful with this one.

Hi David, Thanks for your review and for using the extension! When filling out the "Data usage" options for this extension, we took a cautious approach to our answers. The FAQ when you fill out this information states, under "What does 'handle' mean in the User Data Policy?" both of: "Clipping or scraping content from a website that the user visits, such as taking screenshots or capturing data from a web page" and "Collecting web browsing activity and any information about the website content or resources a user requests or interacts with, including the domains or URLs the browser interacts with, the content of the HTTP requests and responses, and data in a website's browser storage (like cookies)"; which we believe this extension does as it intercepts and reads the network requests that send events to Snowplow. Because Snowplow's JS trackers have an optional geolocation plugin that captures GPS co-ordinates, we chose to select the "Location" option, as we potentially will be "handling" GPS coordinates in this way, despite the extension itself never collecting this information. Likewise, most tracking will include Page URL and Referrer URL, which we consider browsing history which falls under "Web history"; often includes events for link clicks etc, which would fall under "User activity", and these events often include the content of the links, which falls under "Website content". "Authentication information" such as passwords, is specifically for accessing custom Iglu Registries, which may require authentication. It only handles the information entered for that purpose, and those credentials are stored only within your instance of Chrome and not collected or sent anywhere. We certainly do not access any other passwords. Custom registries is also why we have quite open website permissions, because we can not know up front which domains we'll need to connect to to get schemas for validating events. Of all these, the only information actually collected by our own analytics is probably Page URL and Collector URL; we capture these the first time we see an event sent to a new pipeline to get an indicator of how widely Snowplow is deployed. You can opt out of this at any time in the extension settings. Lastly, the extension is open source, so if you'd like you are welcome to examine the source code on Github and verify we don't do anything nasty with your or any other users' information. Hope that explains the data usage information and alleviates any concerns you have about the extension or its privacy requirements. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reach out to us! Best, Jethro - Engineer @ Poplin Data
