Text recognition is powered by the open-source Tesseract OCR engine and runs locally inside your browser. Images stay on your computer. Note: SnapText works best on printed and on-screen text. Handwriting and highly stylized fonts may not be recognized accurately. Chrome does not allow extensions to capture its own pages (such as chrome:// pages and the Chrome Web Store); use image upload there instead.
