Overview
Just Hover — quick word definitions and SnapDic idioms when you highlight a phrase.
SnapDic – Hover Dictionary for English Learners Rest your mouse on any English word and its meaning appears in a small balloon right above it. No clicking, no copying, no new tabs. Keep reading and keep learning. Built for English learners, students and anyone who reads in English every day. WHAT YOU GET • Instant meanings — about 127,000 English words are built in, so most words answer immediately, even offline, with the most common meaning first. • Plain-English definitions — 3,000 key intermediate words and the everyday small words (you, ought, in, gonna…) have SnapDic's own simple definitions with an example sentence. • Word levels — every answer shows an estimated level from ≈A1 to ≈C2, so you know how advanced a word is. • SAT & IELTS vocabulary — 1,000+ exam words with a learner definition, example, synonyms and an "SAT · IELTS word" tag. • Idioms, phrasal verbs and slang — highlight up to four words, like "break the ice", to see what the phrase really means. • Word forms explained — "notarized" shows "past tense of notarize" and its meaning; "went", "children", "mice" and other irregular forms work too. • Legal and tech terms — clear explanations of legal words (affidavit, precedent) and tech words (API, cookie, KDP). • Names and places — when a word is a name, SnapDic explains it from Wikipedia ("Kaningdon-Nindem: another name for the Ninkyob-Nindem language, spoken in Nigeria"). • Skips the easy words — choose how many common words to skip so the balloon only appears when you need it. • Lookups panel — every word you look up is listed in the SnapDic panel so you can review it. HOW TO USE 1. Install SnapDic and open any web page. 2. Rest your mouse on a word — the meaning appears. 3. Highlight two to four words to look up an idiom or phrase. 4. Click the SnapDic toolbar icon to open the panel: turn hovering on or off, choose how many common words to skip, and see your lookups. SNAPDIC PLUS (optional) A one-time upgrade that removes ads and saves every word you look up by day, so you can search and review them later by date or A–Z. PRIVACY SnapDic does not need an account and does not keep your browsing history. Most words are answered from data built into the extension. When a word isn't built in, only that single word is sent to an online dictionary (Wiktionary, Wikipedia, Wikidata or the Free Dictionary API) to look it up. The free version shows a small sponsored banner in the panel.
