Overview
Finds mileposts on Google Maps.
SnagMP overlays highway milepost information directly on Google Maps for Washington State highways. Built for transportation professionals, civil engineers, DOT workers, and construction companies who need quick, accurate milepost data without leaving the browser. CORE FEATURES (Free Tier) Milepost Search — Enter a route number and milepost to jump directly to that location on Google Maps. Supports mainline routes, spurs, couplets, and station equations. Pin Mode — Drop a pin anywhere on a Washington State highway and instantly see the route number, milepost, direction, and offset from centerline. Route Detection — Automatically identifies the nearest state route and snaps to the WSDOT Linear Referencing System (LRS) with sub-foot accuracy. State Detection — Recognizes when you're viewing Washington State via the US Census geocoding service. ADVANCED FEATURES (Basic Tier — free during beta) Elevation Profiling — Generates elevation profiles along highway corridors using USGS 3DEP LiDAR and OpenTopoData sources. Displays grade percentages and engineering station notation. Cross-Section Analysis — Creates perpendicular cross-sections at any milepost showing existing ground elevations from LiDAR data. Street View HUD — Overlays milepost, route, and station data directly on the Google Maps Street View interface for field verification. Photo Manager — Index geotagged photos from local folders. Photos are automatically resolved to the nearest route and milepost. Browse photos by location on a visual strip synced to your current map position. Feature Points & Lines — Place survey-style feature points and polylines on the map. Each point is resolved to route, milepost, station, and offset. Export feature data to CSV or include in composite engineering sheets. Composite Engineering Sheets — Export publication-ready 11×17 PDF sheets combining profile views, cross-sections, and roadway data tables. Roadway Data Lookup — Query WSDOT databases for speed limits, functional classification, access control, urban/rural designation, road surface type, AADT traffic counts, and freight classification at any milepost. DATA SOURCES SnagMP uses publicly available data from: WSDOT ArcGIS REST Services (route geometry, mileposts, roadway characteristics) USGS 3DEP Elevation Point Query Service (LiDAR-derived elevations) OpenTopoData API (elevation data) US Census Bureau Geocoding Service (state boundary detection) All data processing happens locally in your browser. No highway data is transmitted to external servers. SnagMP does not collect or share any user data beyond optional license verification for Washington State employees. LICENSING SnagMP is currently in open beta — all features are available to all users at no cost. After the beta period ends, a 30-day free trial provides continued access to all features. Core milepost lookup and search remain free permanently. Washington State government employees (@wa.gov) receive complimentary Basic access through a verified email process.
