Overview

Royalty, printing cost, BSR sales estimates and keyword research on Amazon book pages — the KDP numbers where you already look.

SmartKDP is a book research tool for Amazon KDP self-publishers: sales estimates, royalty and printing-cost maths, BSR (Best Sellers Rank) insight, niche analysis and keyword research, added to Amazon's own book pages. Open a paperback, and you get its estimated sales and monthly royalty, worked out from the listed price, the sales rank, and the trim size and page count read off the listing — using the same printing-cost maths as our free KDP calculators, not a rule of thumb. Works on amazon.com, amazon.co.uk, and amazon.de. Royalty and sales estimates on a book's page, estimated daily sales and monthly royalty, the printing cost behind them, and every category rank listed with a link. Trim size and ink type are shown as editable fields, clearly marked, because Amazon's page does not state the ink type at all and its measured dimensions straddle KDP's large-trim boundary — both change the printing cost, so we show our assumption instead of hiding it. Niche research on search results A strip under each book with its rank, price, reviews, rating and format, plus a summary over the whole page: median price, review distribution, price band, and how much of the page is independently published. Enough to judge whether a niche is worth entering before you write or design a thing. Bestseller chart analysis Rank against estimated sales across the top slots, with price and format spread and an estimated revenue summary — labelled gross retail, not author earnings, because those are very different numbers. Keyword research in Amazon's search box Start typing and a panel takes the place of Amazon's suggestion dropdown. It shows what that dropdown shows, plus what shoppers search for next after that phrase — which the dropdown never shows you. Arrow keys and Enter drive it the way they drove Amazon's; Escape brings Amazon's back, as does turning the feature off. Stop typing and the phrase expands into a clustered tree of Amazon's own suggestions, grouped by question, buyer-intent and format modifiers, and exportable as CSV. Auto-expand is a switch in the panel, and the panel tells you how many free expansions you have left before you spend one. Built to be honest about what it doesn't know Every statistic is shown with the sample it came from ("median from 11 of 16"). Where the page genuinely cannot support a figure, it says so rather than printing a zero or a dash. On a subcategory bestseller chart the sales-rank column stays empty until you ask for a deeper look, because a #1 in a subcategory is often ranked in the tens of thousands overall, and treating the chart position as a sales rank would be wrong by orders of magnitude. Yours to switch off Every overlay has a Hide link in its own header, one click from the settings page that turns it back on. Features, marketplaces, theme and diagnostics are all individually controllable. No account needed. Every feature above works signed out; connecting a SmartKDP account is optional and adds syncing and saved research, nothing else. Requests to us are a short fixed list — the extension's own configuration, turning a sales rank into an estimate, and, only if you connect an account, that account's own data. None of them carries the book you are looking at. Keyword suggestions go to Amazon's public suggestion service directly from your browser, without your Amazon cookies, and only about a phrase you typed yourself. Diagnostic events are counts and category labels, and can be switched off.
