SmartDark
Overview
Intelligent dark mode for any website. Per-site memory, native dark mode detection, works on React and SPA sites.
Dark mode that actually works on every site, including React and single-page apps. Why other dark mode extensions fail Most extensions apply a single CSS filter to the entire page — images become photonegatives, videos go black, and sites that continuously inject styles (React, Next.js, Emotion, styled-components) override the dark mode entirely after it loads. SmartDark solves both problems. How SmartDark is different Images, videos, and media are explicitly excluded — they always look exactly as intended. For dynamic apps, SmartDark watches for new styles being injected and stays on top of the cascade, so dark mode holds even as the page builds itself. Per-site memory Every site remembers your preference. Set it once, never touch it again. Force any site always-on or always-off independently of your global setting. Native dark mode detection Sites that already support dark mode are detected automatically and left completely alone. No double-inversion, no broken layouts. Brightness and contrast controls Not everyone wants pitch black. Dial in exactly how dark you want it. Zero passive overhead Does absolutely nothing on tabs where it's turned off. No background scripts, no slowdowns, no interference with verification pages or login flows.
