WHY IT ASKS FOR ACCESS TO ALL SITES Videos live everywhere, and there's no way to know in advance which sites you'll watch on. The extension only ever looks for <video> and <iframe> elements — it never reads page text, form data, or your browsing history — and you can disable it on any site from the popup. A NOTE ON YOUTUBE YouTube already ships its own keyboard shortcuts, so Smart Video Controls stays out of its way and leaves the native player untouched. It shines on the sites that don't — streaming services, course platforms, and pages with embedded players. SUBTITLES VIA OPENSUBTITLES (NEW) On pages where Smart Video Controls can tell what you're watching — streaming sites that put the show and episode right in the address — a CC pill appears by the player. Tap it to search the OpenSubtitles catalog for that exact episode, pick a release, and the subtitles load straight onto the video. No files to download and juggle. • Your language, your call — English by default; change it in the popup or per search from the pill. • Honest results — download counts, ratings, and AI-translated entries are labeled, so you know what you're loading before you load it. • One free key, set up once — create it at opensubtitles.com and paste it under Subtitles in the popup. It syncs to your other Chrome devices when Chrome sync is on, just like your positions. OpenSubtitles' free tier allows about 10 subtitle downloads a day — plenty for an evening of viewing. • Community coverage — results come from OpenSubtitles' volunteer catalog, so availability varies by show and language. We never collect URLs, page titles, or page content. Once a day the extension reports anonymous usage counts (how many shortcuts and resumes, nothing about what you watched) so we know what to improve — switch it off in Settings anytime.
