Smart Reader – Clean Reading, TL;DR & Highlights
Overview
Turn any article into a clean reading view with a TL;DR, key points, reading time, and highlights saved to your own library.
Smart Reader turns a messy article page into something you can actually read. Click the icon, use the keyboard shortcut or pick it from the right-click menu. The ads, pop-ups and sidebars disappear, and you get just the article in a calm, clean reading view. What you get • A TL;DR and key points at the top of every article, so you know what it says before you start. • Reading time and the source, at a glance. • Highlights: select any text to keep it. Your highlights are still there when you come back. • A reading library for everything you save. Search titles, summaries and highlights, and export it all to Markdown for Obsidian or Notion. • Light, sepia and dark themes, with adjustable text size. Private by design Summaries are made on your device, by Chrome's built-in AI or, when that isn't available, a local algorithm. Page content is never sent to a server. Smart Reader only reads a page when you ask it to. Your library and highlights stay in your browser. Your reader settings (theme, text size) follow your Chrome profile through Chrome sync. No analytics, no ads, no tracking. If you buy Pro, your license key is checked with Lemon Squeezy about once a week. Apart from that check, Smart Reader doesn't send anything anywhere. Delete an article from your library, or remove the extension, and its data is gone.
