Smart Proxy Route Helper routes selected websites through a local proxy already running on your device, while all other websites connect directly by default. The extension does not provide a VPN or proxy server. It is designed for users who already use V2Ray, V2RayN, V2RayU, or another compatible local proxy client and want explicit per-domain routing in Chrome. How it works Configure the local proxy address and port for the current device, then create routing rules for the domains you need: • Proxy routes matching domains through your local proxy. • Direct explicitly keeps matching domains on the direct connection. • Rules can match an exact hostname or include its subdomains. • Exact rules take priority over broader parent-domain rules. • Websites without a matching rule connect directly. The popup shows the effective route for the current website, the rule that matched, and quick actions for managing it. When new routing targets are created, standard WWW hostnames are canonicalized to their main domain. For example, www.example.com uses the same routing target as example.com. Hostnames such as www1.example.com, www2.example.com, and other actual subdomains remain separate. Finding related domains Modern websites may load images, media, files, authentication services, and other resources from additional domains. Smart Proxy Route Helper can inspect the current page and suggest related hostname candidates. Each candidate can be added individually, or multiple candidates can be selected and added using a persistent batch action. If an exact rule already exists but the discovered resources require its subdomains, the extension offers to expand the existing rule instead of presenting the domain as a new duplicate target. Some domains appear only during a specific action, such as: • uploading or downloading a file; • starting media playback; • opening a section of a page; • completing an authentication step. For these cases, you can start a temporary recording session, perform the action, stop recording, and review the discovered hostnames. Related-domain preview and recording start only after an explicit user action. Discovered candidates never become routing rules without separate selection and confirmation. Sync and device-specific settings Domain rules and classification overrides can synchronize between Chrome installations through Chrome Sync. The following settings remain local to the current device: • local proxy address; • port and protocol; • local proxy enabled state; • temporary recording sessions; • diagnostic preferences; • manually selected interface language. This allows the same domain rules to be used on multiple computers while each device keeps its own local proxy configuration. Settings can also be exported to a versioned backup file and restored after previewing the proposed changes. Local proxy settings are excluded from the backup unless the user explicitly chooses to include them. Privacy and local-first design Smart Proxy Route Helper has: • no developer backend; • no telemetry or analytics; • no advertising; • no user accounts; • no remote rule list; • no remote executable code; • no sale or third-party sharing of user data. During related-domain discovery, observed URL-like values are reduced to normalized hostnames before they cross into the extension context. The extension does not retain: • URL paths or query parameters; • request signatures; • headers; • request or response bodies; • cookies or credentials; • page text or form values; • uploaded file contents; • screenshots; • response contents. Temporary recording hooks are removed on Stop, Cancel, timeout, or navigation. Some worker, service-worker, extension-level, or browser-level requests may not be visible to the recorder. The extension does not request broad host permissions and does not use persistent content scripts, webRequest, webNavigation, or remote code. Smart Proxy Route Helper is open source and intended for users who want an explicit, local-first, permission-minimal PAC manager for Chrome.
