Keep your tabs. Use less memory. Smart Memory Saver automatically puts inactive tabs to sleep so Chrome stays responsive, no matter how many you keep open. Tabs you haven't touched for 30 minutes go quiet in the background. They stay right where you left them in your tab bar — same position, same title — ready to load again the moment you click. Nothing is closed and nothing is bookmarked. You don't lose your place in your own browsing. WHAT IT DOES • Sleeps inactive tabs automatically — uses Chrome's built-in tab discarding to free a tab's memory while keeping it visible and one click away • Never sleeps what you're using — the tab you're looking at is always left alone, and by default so are pinned tabs, tabs playing audio, and video call sites like Google Meet, Zoom, Teams and Webex • Your own never-sleep list — add any site that should always stay loaded • Sleep on demand — Alt+Shift+S sleeps every idle tab, Alt+Shift+Z sleeps the one you're on. Right-click any page for the same actions • Choose your intensity — Manual (nothing sleeps unless you ask), Balanced (the default), or Aggressive (half the idle time, for very large windows). Set the idle timer anywhere from 5 minutes to 4 hours • A dashboard that adds up — see at a glance how many tabs are in use, idle, asleep, and kept awake, plus an estimate of the memory sleeping tabs are freeing right now HOW IT WORKS 1. Install and click the Smart Memory Saver icon to open the dashboard 2. Pick a mode — Balanced is the default and suits most people 3. Carry on browsing. Idle tabs are put to sleep in the background 4. Click a sleeping tab whenever you want it back — it reloads and you carry on 5. Open the popup any time to see where you stand or adjust what's protected WHAT SLEEPING ACTUALLY DOES A sleeping tab is discarded by Chrome and reloaded when you return to it, so it behaves like a fresh page load: anything you had typed but not saved is not preserved. That's exactly why the extension never sleeps the tab you're on, and why pinned tabs, audio, video calls and your own listed sites are protected by default. If a page matters, put it on the list and it will never be touched. ABOUT THE MEMORY FIGURE Chrome does not report per-tab memory to extensions, so the "freed right now" number is an estimate of roughly 80 MB per sleeping tab. It is labelled as an estimate everywhere it appears. The tab counts are exact. PRIVACY Everything stays on your device. Smart Memory Saver makes no network requests of any kind — no analytics, no telemetry, no remote fonts. The extension's manifest sets connect-src 'none', so outbound connections are blocked by the browser itself rather than merely promised. There is no account and nothing to sign up for. Settings and counters are stored locally and are never synced or uploaded. Free, no ads, no upsell.
