Overview
Checks whether text in your browser reads as AI-written, and helps fix it. Runs on your device; your text never leaves it.
SlopMachine reads what you write in the browser and tells you what a careful editor would: the merge tag you forgot to fill, the phrase that could fit any company, the claim with nothing behind it, the sentence that sounds like a chatbot wrote it. It works where you already write. Turn it on for Gmail, LinkedIn or any site you choose, click into a text box, and a score appears on the toolbar icon. Open the side panel to see why. WHAT IT CHECKS • Template leftovers: {{first_name}}, [Company], INSERT notes • Stock phrases, with one-click swaps ("leverage" → "use", "serves as" → "is") • Numbers without a source and vague asks ("Let's connect!") • AI-writing habits, based on Wikipedia's "Signs of AI writing": "not X, but Y" contrasts, "Let that sink in" closers, staged run-ups, chatbot leftovers, "…, highlighting its importance" tails • Rhythm: the same sentence opening three times, walls of text, dashes everywhere It adapts to what you are writing: sales outreach, marketing copy, posts and articles, or documentation. AI-WRITING CHECK Every draft and reviewed page gets an AI score from 0 to 100, with the reasons behind it and a breakdown by paragraph, so you can see which part reads as machine-written. It runs on your device in three depths: Fast (built in: a detector trained on 2025 chatbot writing from GPT, Gemini, Claude and others, no download), Classifier (adds a RoBERTa detector, 126 MB one-time download) and Full (adds two small language models for Binoculars scoring, 399 MB). Your text is never sent anywhere for this. It is tuned for email, posts, marketing, docs and essays; very short timed essays by English learners remain a known weak spot. Accuracy for every tier, including where it fails, is published in the project's evaluation report. A score is an estimate, not proof of who wrote something. SlopMachine says so on every result. REVIEW PUBLISHED PAGES On a help article or blog post, press "Review this page". You get the same checks, plus an optional page check that says whether the page is complete, understandable and natural-sounding, with the reasons. FIX IT YOUR WAY Every fix shows a preview first. Apply it with one click and undo it with Cmd/Ctrl+Z, or copy it instead. Nothing changes without your say. OPTIONAL AI, ON YOUR TERMS The rule-based review needs no AI and works offline. For rewrites and a deeper second opinion, pick an engine: • Chrome's built-in AI, on your device • A local model (Ollama, LM Studio) • Your own OpenAI, Anthropic or Google Gemini key, with the model list loaded from your key Before anything goes to a remote provider, SlopMachine shows exactly what will be sent and asks. PRIVATE BY DESIGN No account. No server. No analytics. Your text is never stored, and it only leaves your browser when you send it to the AI provider you chose. Keys stay in your browser. No detector can prove who wrote something. SlopMachine shows its evidence and tells you how sure it is, and it is tuned to rarely flag a person's own writing.
