Slate Clipper

Send selected text and pages to your Slate vault. Cannot read your notes.

Slate Clipper sends what you are reading to your Slate vault — the whole page, or just the paragraph you highlighted — and then gets out of the way. WHAT IT DOES • Click the toolbar button to clip the page you are on, with its title and a link back to the source. • Right-click a selection and choose "Clip selection to Slate" to send only that. • Press Alt+Shift+S to clip the selection without leaving the keyboard. • Choose a folder for your clips, or leave it empty and they join your daily note. Each day gets its own dated note inside the folder, and the folder is created on the first clip — there is nothing to set up in advance. WRITE-ONLY BY DESIGN This is the part worth reading twice. The extension holds three things: a vault id, that vault's public capture key, and a URL. It holds no account, no session, no password, and no key that can open a note. That means it can add to your vault. It cannot read it, search it, or delete anything. Every clip is sealed in your browser, before it leaves, to a key that only your own copy of Slate can open — so the text you clip is unreadable to the server that carries it, and so is the folder you filed it in. If this extension were lost or compromised tomorrow, the cost would be that somebody could add lines to your daily note. It would not cost you the vault. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, and no advertising. Nothing is sold or shared. The source is public. HOW CLIPS ARRIVE Clips are held encrypted on the server until a signed-in copy of Slate pulls them down, so they appear on Slate's next sync rather than instantly. They are timestamped when you captured them, not when they arrived — so a clip you took this morning files itself under this morning. SETUP 1. Install Slate — https://www.slatenotes.app 2. In Slate, press Cmd+P, type "clipper", and run "Connect a clipper…". It asks for your vault password and copies a connection token. 3. Click this extension's toolbar button and paste the token in. That is the whole setup. The token carries the vault, its public key, and the endpoint, so there is nothing else to look up.
