Sky Map — Star Map & Night Sky Constellations
Overview
Interactive star map & night sky atlas: real stars, 88 constellations, galaxies & nebulae over DSS sky photos. Free.
🌌 Sky Map — Star Map & Night Sky Constellations An interactive star map in your browser. Open the popup, pick a constellation, star, galaxy or nebula, and the sky viewer flies there — real catalog data drawn over deep-sky survey photos. A stargazing app that lives in your toolbar. This is a night sky map you can actually explore: pan, zoom and roam from the Orion Nebula to the Andromeda Galaxy, with constellation lines, star names and a coordinate grid you can switch on and off. ✨ FEATURES ⭐ Real star map data — 1,600+ stars to magnitude 5 from the HYG catalog, tinted by their true color, with the brightest named: Sirius, Vega, Betelgeuse, Polaris, Antares. 🔭 88 constellations — figure lines and names for every constellation, from the Big Dipper and Orion's Belt to the Southern Cross. A proper constellation map, not a handful of images. 🌠 Deep sky objects — all 110 Messier galaxies, nebulae and star clusters, with type, magnitude, distance and a short description in the info panel. 📷 Sky survey imagery — DSS2 color and 2MASS infrared photos stream in as you zoom, so the Orion Nebula, Andromeda and the Milky Way appear as they look through a telescope. 🔎 Search by name or catalog ID — type "Andromeda", "M31" or "NGC 224" and jump straight there. ⭐ Favorites — star the objects you love; they sync across your devices with no account to create. 🎛️ Toggles for imagery, constellation lines, labels and an RA/Dec grid, plus a live coordinate readout under your cursor. 🎯 WHO IT IS FOR 🌃 Stargazers who want a sky map open next to the window before heading outside. 🎓 Students and teachers looking for an interactive constellation map for astronomy lessons. 📸 Astrophotographers planning targets and checking the field around deep sky objects. 🧑🚀 Anyone who typed "star map" hoping for real stars instead of a poster generator. 🛠️ HOW IT WORKS 🧭 The sky viewer projects the celestial sphere with real right ascension and declination — the same coordinates you see in a star atlas or planetarium software. 🗺️ Survey photos are fetched as small tiles over HTTPS from CDS Strasbourg, the public archive professional astronomers use. Turn imagery off and the star map still works fully offline. 🔒 Runs entirely as a local extension page. No analytics, no account. The only permission is storage, for your favorites and settings. 🚀 WHY THIS SKY MAP Most star map extensions are a thin wrapper around a website — or a picture gallery. This one is a real celestial map: — Bundled star, constellation and Messier catalogs — Genuine deep-sky photography, not stock images — Smooth pan and zoom from wide field to a single nebula — Manifest V3, tiny footprint, no third-party scripts 📝 USE CASES 🌙 Learn the sky — find Polaris from the Big Dipper, trace Orion, spot where the Pleiades sit in Taurus. 🔭 Plan an observing night — check what a galaxy looks like and how large it is before pointing a telescope. 📚 Teach astronomy — project the constellation map on a screen and zoom into the Ring Nebula or the Whirlpool Galaxy. ☕ Take a break — leave the sky viewer open as an interactive night sky map and roam. 💡 TIPS — Scroll to zoom toward your cursor; drag to pan. — Turn on the grid to read off RA and Dec for any spot in the sky. — Switch to 2MASS in Settings to see the Milky Way in infrared. Install Sky Map and get an interactive star map, constellation map and night sky atlas in one click.
