Overview

Hide YouTube Shorts on home, search and subscriptions. A Shorts blocker with one toggle; watch Short links as regular videos.

Want to hide YouTube Shorts and get your normal feed back? This Shorts blocker takes the vertical-clip shelf off the home page, removes the clips from search results and subscriptions, and hides the sidebar link, the channel tab and the filter chip. Use it to block Shorts, remove Shorts from YouTube or simply turn off Shorts without touching the rest of the site: your regular videos, playlists and channels stay exactly where they were. One switch in the popup turns the hiding on and off, and a link to a vertical clip opens a small screen that lets you watch it in the regular player. No account, no settings to configure. 🎯 WHAT IT HIDES The extension looks for vertical clips in every place the site mixes them in, and hides them there: Home page — The shelf and the single thumbnails scattered between normal videos disappear. Search results — Search for a tutorial, a song or a review and see only full-length videos, playlists and channels. Subscriptions — The feed of your favorite creators shows their regular uploads, with no clips mixed in. Recommendations next to a video — The list on the right of the watch page loses its clips. Left menu — The "Shorts" entry disappears from the full sidebar and from the narrow icon bar. Channel pages — The "Shorts" tab is hidden, so you do not land in a creator's vertical feed by accident. Filter chips — The "Shorts" chip above feeds and playlists is removed. The elements are hidden on the page, not deleted from your account. Switch the extension off and everything is back. 🔀 WATCH AS A REGULAR VIDEO Friends send links to short vertical videos, and other sites open them too. When a /shorts/ link opens while the extension is on, you do not get dropped into the endless vertical scroll. You see a clean screen with two buttons: Watch as Regular Video — opens the same video in the standard player, with the usual controls, progress bar and speed settings. Go Back — returns you to the page you came from. The screen follows the site's light or dark theme and is translated like the popup. ⚡ ONE TOGGLE, NO RELOAD Click the toolbar icon and press the big key: it strikes through the vertical frame and the status line reads "YouTube Shorts hidden". Press it again to see them for a while. The page and the link screen both react at once, with no reload. The toolbar icon changes too, so you can tell at a glance whether the blocker is on. A language menu in the popup switches the interface between 55 languages, and the popup follows your system light or dark theme. The on/off state and the language are saved in your browser account settings, so they follow you to every computer where you are signed in to Chrome. 🔄 HOW IT WORKS 1. Install the extension. Hiding is on from the first second. 2. Open the site. The home page, search and subscriptions no longer show clips. 3. Want them back? Click the toolbar icon and press the key. 4. Open a link to a vertical clip? Pick "Watch as Regular Video" or "Go Back". It works on www.youtube.com in your desktop browser. The hiding is plain page styling, so it adds no delay when pages load. 💡 WHEN IT HELPS Cutting down on short-form scrolling — Take away the endless vertical feed and open the site for the videos you actually came to watch. Finding tutorials and long videos — Search results stay about lectures, talks, reviews and how-to guides instead of 60-second clips. Following creators — Your subscriptions feed becomes a list of real uploads again. Working or studying — Stop one more clip from pulling you away from the task at hand. Sharing links — Open what a friend sent you in the proper player, with rewind and speed controls. Keeping the menu tidy — No clip entry in the sidebar, no extra tab on channels. 🔒 PRIVACY This extension has no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no servers of its own. It collects nothing about you, your history or what you watch, and it makes no network requests: the fonts, icons and styles are bundled inside the extension. Only two permissions are used: Storage — keeps your on/off choice and your language, nothing else. Access to www.youtube.com — lets the extension hide the clips and show the link screen. It cannot read or change any other website. 👥 WHO IT IS FOR People who want a calmer feed and fewer clips. Students and researchers who search for long-form lessons and talks. Viewers who follow creators and want their subscriptions back. Anyone who opens shared links and wants the regular player instead of the vertical one. ❓ GOOD TO KNOW Does it work in the mobile app? — No. It works in the desktop browser, on www.youtube.com. Does it remove anything from my account? — No. It only hides the clips on the page. Your history, subscriptions and settings are untouched, and it does not change what the site recommends. What if the site changes its layout? — The extension is maintained, and its hiding rules are updated when pages are rebuilt. Can I still watch a vertical clip? — Yes. Turn the extension off, or use "Watch as Regular Video" on the link screen. YouTube and Shorts are trademarks of Google LLC. This extension is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube or Google. 🔷 ABOUT Hide YouTube Shorts is published by PYROCTAL. We build small browser tools that each do one job, respect your data and ask for as few permissions as possible. If it keeps your feed clean, a rating and a short review help other people find it. ✅ GET STARTED Install it, open the site and see a home page, search and subscriptions feed without clips. One key turns the blocker off whenever you want them back.
