Skiply — Skip Ads & Sponsored Posts
Overview
Auto-skips video ads and hides sponsored posts on YouTube, Google, Amazon and more — without breaking the page.
Most of the advertising you actually notice is not the kind a network blocker can stop. It is the promoted post four items into your feed, the four sponsored results above the real ones, the sponsored tiles wedged into a product row, and the ninety seconds of a video where the person you came to watch reads out a script for a mattress company. All of that is served from the same servers as the content around it. There is no request to block. It has to be removed on the page, after it arrives, by something that can tell an ad apart from an article — and that is the whole of what Skiply does. ★ THE ADS YOU ACTUALLY SEE YouTube pre-rolls and mid-rolls, skipped the moment the button appears. Sponsored blocks and shopping carousels on Google. Promoted posts on X, LinkedIn, Reddit and Facebook. Sponsored tiles and sponsored rows on Amazon. Masthead and sidebar promos on YouTube's home page. The page closes up behind them — no blank holes, no jumping layout. ★ AND THE SPONSOR READ IN THE MIDDLE OF THE VIDEO Skiply jumps the sponsor segment inside a video, using timestamps marked by the SponsorBlock community. You come back at the point where the video starts again. The lookup sends four characters of a hash that covers thousands of videos, so the server it asks cannot work out which one you are watching. ★ IT WOULD RATHER LEAVE AN AD THAN BREAK YOUR PAGE This is the part that matters. A blocker that matches the text "Sponsored" anywhere on a page deletes the news article about sponsorship, deletes the comment saying "this video is sponsored lol", and sometimes deletes the page. Skiply matches whole labels on elements with no children, then walks up a bounded number of steps to a boundary the site has actually declared. If it cannot find one, it does nothing at all. Every structural rule ships with a test against a saved copy of the real page, and a rule that fails its test does not ship. ★ 18 LANGUAGES, INCLUDING THE ADS Platforms are required to label paid placements, and they label them in the language of the interface. Skiply reads "Sponsored", "Gesponsert", "Patrocinado", "Sponsorisé", "広告", "Реклама", "광고", "प्रायोजित" and the rest — so it works the same whether your feed is in English or not. The extension's own interface is translated to match. ★ NOTHING ABOUT YOU LEAVES YOUR COMPUTER No account, no sign-in, no analytics, no telemetry. The counter of what was blocked is stored in your own browser and read by nobody. Browsing history is the most revealing thing an extension can be handed, and an ad blocker that quietly collects it has sold you the same thing it claims to remove. Skiply makes two outbound requests and neither one identifies you: it fetches the same rule pack everyone gets, twice a day, and it asks SponsorBlock for segment timestamps using a truncated hash that matches thousands of videos at once. No page you visit, and no list of what you watched, is ever sent anywhere.
