SkillDock — Autofill the Skills section on Workday job applications Applying to jobs through Workday means retyping the same list of skills into the same clunky autocomplete field, application after application. SkillDock automates that step: keep one or more skill lists saved, click a button on a Workday application page, and it fills the Skills field for you — adding each skill only when Workday itself offers an exact match for it. HOW IT WORKS 1. Save a skill list in the popup — one skill per line. Keep multiple named SkillSets (e.g. "Data Engineering," "AI / ML," "Software Engineering") and switch between them depending on the role. 2. Open a Workday job application and navigate to the Skills section. 3. Pick a fill speed and click "Fill skills" in the extension popup. 4. SkillDock finds the Skills autocomplete field on the page, types each saved skill into it one at a time, waits for Workday's suggestion dropdown to load, and selects the option — only if it's an exact match. 5. You get a per-skill report: added, already present, no exact match found, or ambiguous. MULTIPLE SKILLSETS Different roles call for different skills. SkillDock lets you maintain several named skill lists and switch between them from the popup in one click, instead of rewriting the same list every time you apply to a different kind of job. Creating, renaming, and deleting a SkillSet takes a few seconds, and the one currently active is always visible before you click Fill. FILL SPEED Three speeds are available — Slow, Medium, and Fast. All three run the exact same checks: exact matching, selected-state verification, and stale-dropdown protection are identical in every mode. Speed only changes how long the engine waits between actions, never what it checks or whether it double-checks a selection actually took effect. Slow is the default; switch to Fast once you've confirmed it behaves the same way on the tenants you're applying to. EXACT MATCH ONLY This is the core design principle: SkillDock will never add a skill unless Workday's own suggestion list contains an entry that matches exactly (after only reasonable, safe normalization — trimming whitespace, collapsing double spaces, and treating visually-identical Unicode characters the same way). It will not substitute "Python" for "Python Programming," "AWS" for "Amazon Web Services," or "C" for "C++," and it will not silently pick the closest-sounding option. If Workday doesn't offer an exact match for something on your list, SkillDock reports that skill as unmatched rather than guessing — so your application never ends up with a skill you didn't mean to add. BUILT FOR WORKDAY'S REAL-WORLD QUIRKS Workday's application pages aren't one uniform template — different tenants render the Skills field with different underlying markup, and the widget itself has some surprising behaviors. SkillDock's field-detection logic scores multiple signals (accessible name, nearby labels, ARIA combobox semantics, Workday's own automation hooks) to reliably find the right field across these variations, rather than relying on a single brittle selector. It also handles several Workday-specific behaviors correctly: • Distinguishing your already-selected skill chips from a genuine new suggestions dropdown, so it never accidentally removes a skill you've already added. • Avoiding Workday's cached, stale dropdown results left over from a previous search, so it doesn't act on outdated suggestions. • Falling back to keyboard navigation when a tenant's UI doesn't respond to a simulated click. • Correctly reading which option is actually checked versus which one is merely keyboard-highlighted — two different things in Workday's markup that are easy to confuse. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO • It does not fill out any other part of the application. No work history, no education, no resume upload, no personal information — it only touches the Skills field it detects or the field you manually point it at. • It does not submit applications for you. • It does not guess or approximate matches. An unmatched skill is reported, not forced in. • It does not work outside Workday-style Skills autocomplete widgets. PRIVACY SkillDock runs entirely inside your browser and makes no network requests of any kind — no analytics, no telemetry, no error reporting, no remote configuration, and no remotely hosted code. The only data it stores is your saved SkillSets, your selected fill speed, and your most recent run's report — kept locally in your browser's storage on your own machine, never sent anywhere. The content script only activates on the tab where you click "Fill skills," and it only reads or interacts with the Skills field itself, not your other application answers, resume content, or personal details. Uninstalling the extension deletes all of its stored data. PERMISSIONS, EXPLAINED • activeTab — lets the extension act on the current tab only when you explicitly click the button; it has no standing access to every page you visit. • scripting — lets the extension inject its fill logic into the current tab on demand. • storage — lets the extension remember your SkillSets, selected speed, and last run's report locally, so you don't have to re-enter anything every time. There is no broad host permission requesting access to "all Workday sites" or any other domain — SkillDock only acts on the tab you're already looking at, when you ask it to. MANUAL FIELD PICKER If SkillDock can't automatically detect the right field on an unusual page layout, click to manually pick it — the extension highlights editable candidates on the page so you can select the correct one directly. WHO THIS IS FOR Anyone repeatedly filling out Workday-based job applications who's tired of retyping the same skill list by hand. It's a small, focused productivity tool, not a full auto-apply bot — you still review and submit the application yourself; SkillDock handles the repetitive part.
