Overview

Free! Easily draw and save simple drawings right in the browser.

Sketchpad for Google Chrome — draw, save, and annotate right in your browser Sketchpad is a free, fast, and completely offline drawing canvas that lives in your browser. Click the toolbar icon and start sketching in an instant — no account, no sign-up, no network connection, and no tracking. Version 4.0 is a complete, ground-up rewrite that finally delivers on the app's original promise: everything you draw is saved automatically and waiting for you the next time you open it. YOUR WORK IS ALWAYS SAVED The number-one problem with the old Sketchpad was simple and painful: close the tab and your drawing was gone forever. That is fixed. Sketchpad now auto-saves your canvas to local storage as you work — quietly, in the background, and again the moment you switch tabs — then restores it perfectly when you return, including your full undo and redo history. Nothing is ever sent to a server; your art stays on your machine. We also added a real "My Sketches" gallery so you are no longer limited to a single drawing. Create as many sketches as you like, each with its own thumbnail, and open, rename, duplicate, delete, or export any of them from one tidy drawer. A COMPLETE, HONEST TOOLSET Every tool now does exactly what its label says. The old "Eraser" button was actually a color picker — a long-standing source of confusion — so we shipped a true eraser and correctly renamed the picker to "Pick color." On top of that you get a full set of new tools: a pressure-aware brush, a highlighter with a natural multiply blend, straight lines, rectangles and ellipses (hold Shift to constrain to squares and circles), a flood-fill bucket, and a text tool for quick labels. Single-clicking now paints a dot and single-clicking a swatch selects a color — small fixes that make the whole app feel right. COLOR THE WAY YOU WANT Pick from an 18-swatch palette, reuse your recent colors, type an exact hex value, or open your operating system's native color picker. There is even a screen-wide eyedropper (via the EyeDropper API) so you can grab any color from anywhere on your display. Brush size and opacity now have live previews, and the sliders and their number fields stay perfectly in sync both ways — type a value or drag the slider, and they always agree. EXPORT ANYWHERE Save your work as a crisp PNG or a JPEG, copy the image straight to your clipboard, send it to your printer, or export with a transparent background. Files download with clean, timestamped names like sketchpad-2026-07-02-1430.png. Because the canvas now renders with a uniform, high-DPI transform, your exported image matches exactly what you drew on screen — no more stretched or blurry results. ANNOTATE ANY WEB PAGE Right-click the Sketchpad toolbar icon and choose "Annotate this page" to capture a screenshot of the current tab straight into a new sketch. Circle a bug, mark up a design, highlight a paragraph, or add notes to anything on the web — then export or save it to your gallery. MADE FOR EVERY DEVICE Sketchpad now supports touch and stylus input with pen pressure controlling your stroke width, plus pinch-to-zoom and two-finger panning on touchscreens. On a desktop you can zoom with the scroll wheel, pan with the spacebar or middle mouse button, and use on-screen zoom controls for detailed work. The canvas is fully responsive and fits your window instead of being locked to a fixed size. POLISHED AND PERSONAL A warm new "paper" design with a friendly rounded typeface makes drawing a pleasure, and a matching dark theme is one click away. The options page lets you set your preferred theme (dark, light, or follow your system), default brush, and canvas settings. Standard keyboard shortcuts are here too — Ctrl+Z, Ctrl+Shift+Z, Ctrl+Y, and Ctrl+S — with a guard so they never fire while you are typing in a text field. A first-run help overlay gives you a quick tour of every tool. The entire interface is translated into all 41 supported languages, with full right-to-left layout support. FASTER, LIGHTER, MORE RELIABLE Under the hood, 4.0 is dependency-free vanilla Canvas2D. We removed an old, unofficial third-party graphics library and rebuilt undo/redo around a vector op-history that replays your strokes — cutting memory use from roughly 100 MB of bitmap snapshots down to a few kilobytes while raising how far back you can undo. We also eliminated a long list of crashes, memory leaks, dead buttons, and layout bugs, and fresh installs now open straight into the app instead of a marketing page. Free, private, offline, and finally as dependable as it should be. Install Sketchpad and start drawing.
