Sitespan quietly records how long you spend on each website and shows you the answer. No account, no sign-in, no server — every number stays on your computer. WHAT YOU GET • Today at a glance — every site you have visited, ranked by time, with a bar showing each one's share of your day. • Click any site to see its last 7 days, so you can tell whether a habit is growing or fading. • 90 days of history, browsable one week at a time. Arrows step back through the weeks; click a day for its full breakdown. • A running total on the toolbar icon, so you can see today's figure without opening anything. It turns red once you pass your daily limit. • A daily limit you set in minutes, with one notification per day when you cross it. No nagging. • Export everything to CSV whenever you want it. HOW THE TIME IS COUNTED Two things count, and only on http/https pages: 1. The tab you are actually looking at, in the focused window. The clock stops when you switch away, when Chrome loses focus, and when you leave your machine — idle is re-checked continuously, not just once. 2. Any tab playing audio, focused or not. A lecture on a second monitor is real time spent, and a full-screen video is not mistaken for an empty chair just because nobody is typing. Muted tabs are excluded. Because two sites can count at the same moment, the per-site figures can add up to more than the day is long. Sitespan shows both numbers rather than quietly picking one: "1.2h elapsed · 2.0h across sites". The toolbar badge and the daily limit always use elapsed wall-clock time, because a limit on anything else would not mean anything. A visit that crosses midnight is split and credited to both days. The same site open in two tabs counts once, not twice. YOUR DATA Sitespan has no server and makes no network requests of any kind. There is nothing to sign into, and nothing is uploaded, sold, or shared. Site icons come from Chrome's own local cache rather than a third-party favicon service, so not even a hostname leaves your machine. Your history lives in Chrome's extension storage and is yours to export or delete at any time. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO • It measures hostnames, not individual pages. • A silent video or animation in a background tab records nothing — audio is the only signal Chrome offers for "something is happening here". • A browser crash can lose up to one minute of the visit in progress. • Data is per-profile and is not synced between devices.
