Overview
Browse XML sitemaps as readable, searchable tables and open Sitemap links from robots.txt. No tracking or accounts.
Browse XML sitemaps as clear, searchable tables and find issues that need attention. Sitemap Inspector combines sitemap feedback, file statistics, and optional live URL checks, including Googlebot robots.txt rules. Browse and navigate - Open standard, image, news, and video sitemaps, plus sitemap indexes. - Search all entries, sort columns, and browse tables in pages of 100 rows. - See image counts, video thumbnails and metadata, news headlines, and alternate language links from hreflang entries. - Follow clickable Sitemap links in robots.txt and breadcrumbs through the sitemaps you visit. - Switch between the table and parsed XML, with light and dark themes and a layout that adapts to narrow screens. - Recognize inspected pages by the Sitemap Inspector logo in the header and browser tab. Unstyled sitemaps open automatically. If a site uses XSLT styling, click the extension button to replace it with the readable view. Refresh the tab to restore the site's view. Find sitemap issues - Missing lastmod values, dates without a time, invalid dates, and future modification dates. - The same lastmod value shared by more than 10 distinct URLs, or conflicting dates for duplicate URLs. - Missing, relative, malformed, or overlong addresses, plus duplicate URLs. - Mixed HTTP and HTTPS, URL fragments, tracking parameters, and embedded credentials. - More than 50,000 entries, 1,000 news entries, or 50 MB (52,428,800 bytes) uncompressed. - Unexpected MIME types and sitemap indexes that point to other indexes. - Optional priority and changefreq fields, labeled as ignored by Google and Bing. The top summary shows counts and advice. Use the Show entries filter to find affected rows, combined with your address search. Date-only, repeated-date, and ignored-field messages clearly say when every entry is affected. Missing and date-only lastmod values are allowed by the sitemap protocol; repeated dates can be legitimate. Check URLs when you choose Click Check URLs to inspect up to 100 distinct URLs matching your filters. Live checks find redirects, HTTP errors, noindex directives, and canonical mismatches. Stop a batch at any time, then continue with unchecked URLs. A rate-limit response pauses the batch. Filter results to show findings, incomplete checks, or unchecked entries. Googlebot checks compare each listed URL with robots.txt on its own site. They account for Googlebot-specific groups, Allow and Disallow rules, wildcards, and query strings. Blocked URLs appear in the rows, top summary, and filter, with the matching rule, line number, and robots.txt link. Unreadable policies are marked unverified. Results reflect the browser's response, which may differ from Google's cached copy; they do not show Google's indexing status. For indexes, live checks read child sitemaps, including .xml.gz files, to count entries and check uncompressed size. Entry-limit, size-limit, and nested-index errors appear beneath each affected sitemap, in the top summary, and in the filter. Counts cover checked entries only. Incomplete checks label partial counts and sizes as lower bounds. See file statistics The Statistics box shows the open file's total URL or sitemap count and uncompressed size, before filtering. If the browser does not expose the original size, the box says it is unavailable. Privacy and website access No account, analytics, or advertising. The extension processes sitemap data locally and does not upload it, search terms, or check results to the developer. Live checks start only after your click. They request listed URLs and robots.txt without cookies or referrers. Each site's robots.txt is reused across batches until refresh. Returned HTML is inspected without running its scripts or loading its resources. Browser access restrictions can prevent checks. Results stay in the tab until refresh or closing. Video thumbnails load directly from their listed image hosts without a referrer. Those hosts receive normal browser requests. Breadcrumb addresses stay in temporary browser-session memory and are cleared when their tab closes; a new tab can keep its own copy. They are never synced or uploaded. Chrome asks for website access to recognize sitemaps on any domain, including addresses without a .xml suffix. The toolbar action fetches the current address again to read the original XML, using normal browser credentials for that website. The file on the website remains unchanged. Supported files Sitemap Inspector recognizes standard sitemap XML displayed as XML or plain text, including files served with an RSS content type. Real RSS and Atom feeds, other XML, and ordinary pages stay unchanged. It also makes Sitemap declarations clickable in plain-text /robots.txt files. It does not open local files or browser downloads, or perform full sitemap schema validation.
