Sitecore Publisher Manager
Overview
Publish one or many Sitecore items (XM Cloud, XM/XP) with publish plans, environment profiles, dry run and a results report.
Publish Sitecore items, and the parent folders they need, in one click from the Content Editor. Works with XM Cloud and the classic XM/XP Content Editor. Nothing is installed in Sitecore. Publishing a single item often fails because its parent folders were never published. Sitecore Publisher Manager works out which parents need publishing and publishes them in the right order, with the publish settings you choose for each level. WHAT IT DOES • Publish one or many item paths at once, plus their parents (de-duplicated, published once each) • Publish plan: choose Smart publish or Republish, and whether to include subitems and related items, separately for the parents and the item • Dry run: fills in every Publish dialog and then cancels it, so you can check the plan before publishing anything • Background publishing: a pinned background tab does the work so you can keep editing • Queue per environment: requests from any tab queue up, and UAT and production run independently • Results report: succeeded and failed steps, Sitecore's created/updated/skipped counts, with a Copy report button • Environment profiles: different settings for dev, UAT and production (for example, dry run by default on production) • Handles Sitecore prompts: the Republish warning, broken-link warnings when saving, and error dialogs • Keyboard shortcut (Alt+Shift+P) to publish the open item without opening the popup • Import and export settings to share them with your team HOW TO USE 1. Open an item in the Sitecore Content Editor. 2. Click the extension icon. The item's path is filled in. Add more paths (one per row, or paste several lines) to publish them together. 3. Check the run order shown in the popup, then click "Dry run" and review the report. 4. Switch to Publish and click "Save & publish". The first time on a site, Chrome asks to allow background publishing there. Click Allow, or choose "Publish in this tab instead". The popup's Dry run / Publish switch applies to that run only. It always opens in the mode set for the environment's profile. SET UP YOUR ENVIRONMENTS Open Settings from the popup (or right-click the icon > Options). 1. Click "+ New profile" and give it a name, e.g. "Client A - UAT". 2. In "Applies to hosts", enter the environment's host name, one per line. * matches anything: xmc-clienta-uat.sitecorecloud.io: exactly that environment *-clienta-*.sitecorecloud.io: every XM Cloud environment with "-clienta-" in its name *.localhost: local Docker CM instances 3. Choose the settings for that environment and click "Save settings". The first profile whose hosts match the open tab is used, and the popup shows its name. Any other site uses the Default profile. Use Duplicate to copy a profile, and Export / Import to share profiles with your team. Suggested setup: production profiles with "Dry run by default" on; dev and UAT profiles with it off. PUBLISH PLAN AND HIERARCHY Example path: /sitecore/content/MyTenant/MySite/Data/Folder/MyItem • Site depth: which level under /sitecore/content is the site root. 2 = /sitecore/content/<tenant>/<site> (here: MySite). The first level below the site is the "section" (here: Data). • Parents to publish: Site, section and all folders: MySite, Data and Folder (most thorough; every new folder on the way is published) Site and section only: MySite and Data Site only: MySite None: just the item, like Sitecore's own Publish Item • Order: Parents first (site > item) or Item first (item > site). • Parent steps: Smart publish (only if changed, fast) or Republish (always). Parents never include subitems. "Publish related items" for parents is optional and off by default. • Item step: Republish or Smart publish, with or without subitems (e.g. all entries in a dictionary folder) and related items (data sources, media, referenced items). • Several items in one run that share parents: each parent is published only once. • Whole-site safety: if a path is the site root with subitems on, the popup asks before publishing the whole site. LANGUAGES AND TARGETS • Languages: leave as the Publish dialog shows, the current editor language, all languages, or only the ones you list (e.g. English, de-DE). • Publishing targets: leave as the dialog shows, all targets, or only the ones you list (e.g. Edge). SAFETY OPTIONS • Dry run by default: the popup starts in dry-run mode for this profile. • Save the open item first: saves your unsaved edits before publishing. • Auto-confirm the Republish warning: clicks OK on Sitecore's "Republishing is an expensive operation" prompt, or stops at it. • Broken links when saving: always ask me, or always save. • Run publishing: in a background tab (keep working) or in my own tab. • Timing: how long each dry-run dialog stays visible, and the publish timeout per step. SECURITY AND PRIVACY • No keys, tokens or passwords. It uses your existing Sitecore login, and Sitecore checks your permissions and logs every publish under your user, just like a manual publish. • Site access is requested at run time, one site at a time, and only when you allow it. • Signing out stops publishing: before each job it checks you're still signed in to that environment; if not, that environment's queue is cancelled. • A job only runs on the environment it was queued for, and the keyboard shortcut asks before a real (non-dry-run) publish. • Nothing leaves your browser except requests to your own Sitecore environment. No other servers, no analytics. • Settings sync through Chrome. Path lists, the queue and reports are kept in session memory only. "Sitecore" is a trademark of Sitecore Corporation A/S.
