Overview

Blocks ads and trackers using DNS-sinkhole style blocklists that update daily. Mark any ad to hide it for good.

Sinkhole blocks ads and trackers before they load, the same way a network-wide DNS sinkhole does, but right inside Chrome. No account, no tracking, no data leaves your browser. HOW IT WORKS • Blocks requests to over 100,000 known ad, tracker and malware domains, and all of their subdomains. • Hides common ad boxes and banners automatically, and blocks well-known ad script files such as ads.js and pagead.js. • The blocklists refresh automatically every day, so Sinkhole keeps up with new ad networks. • Built on Chrome's declarativeNetRequest engine: filtering happens inside the browser, and Sinkhole never reads the content of your requests. MARK ANY AD YOURSELF Spot an ad that slipped through? Click the Sinkhole icon, choose "Mark an ad on this page" and click the ad. Sinkhole shows you exactly what will be hidden, saves it, and keeps it hidden every time you visit that site. If the ad came from another host, you can block that host everywhere with one tick. Changed your mind? Undo instantly, or remove anything later in Settings. SAFE BY DESIGN • Page navigations are never blocked, so a bad list entry can't lock you out of a website. • A built-in allowlist protects essential services such as Google, Microsoft, Apple, GitHub and Cloudflare. • One-click "Pause on this site" for pages that misbehave with blocking on, and a global on/off switch. • If a blocklist update fails, your existing rules stay in place. PRIVATE • No analytics, no telemetry, no accounts. • Your settings and the ads you mark are stored only on your device. • The only network request Sinkhole makes is downloading the blocklists you choose (by default four open-source lists: StevenBlack hosts, EasyList, EasyPrivacy and the AdGuard DNS filter). FEATURES AT A GLANCE ✓ Ad, tracker and malware blocking plus automatic ad hiding ✓ Daily automatic blocklist updates ✓ Click-to-hide ad picker with undo ✓ Per-site pause and global switch ✓ Add your own https blocklists ✓ Live count of blocked requests on the toolbar icon ✓ Free, no ads, no upsells Note: Sinkhole works mostly by domain, so ads served from the same domain as the content itself (for example some in-video ads) can still appear. Use the ad picker to hide those on the pages you visit. Blocklist data: StevenBlack/hosts (MIT license), EasyList and EasyPrivacy (easylist.to), AdGuard DNS filter. Lists are downloaded by the extension at runtime and are not bundled.
