Simple Video Speed Controller is a free, open-source extension that changes how fast HTML5 video plays, from 0.1x to 16x, on YouTube, Netflix, online courses and other sites. SET YOUR PACE • Six presets from 0.5x to 3x • Any custom value from 0.1x to 16x • Plus and minus buttons for 0.05x steps • A brief on-page message confirms each change, including in fullscreen, with no permanent overlay on the player A PACE FOR EACH WEBSITE Your regular pace is saved per domain and applied automatically, so a lecture site can stay at 1.5x while another stays at 1x. It keeps one value per website, not per channel or course. If a player resets the rate, the extension applies your choice again. At 1x, the site's own player stays in control. TEMPORARY BOOST Hold a shortcut to jump to a rate you choose, then let go to return to where you were. Set the boost value and letter key once. It is handy for a familiar intro or recap. KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS Windows and Linux use Ctrl + Shift. Mac uses Command + Option. Add one of these: • Plus or Minus: change by 0.05x • Backspace (Delete on Mac): return to normal • 1 to 9: jump to that value, press again to add 0.5x, and again to remove it • 0: switch to 16x, and press again to go back • Your chosen letter: hold for Temporary Boost WORKS WHERE VIDEO LIVES It handles embedded frames, players added after a page loads, and players inside open shadow DOMs. On YouTube live streams, playback returns to normal at the live edge to avoid buffering loops. COMMON QUESTIONS Does it work on every site? It works with standard HTML5 players. A site can restrict the rate, and very high values may not play smoothly. Does it download or change files? No. It only changes playback in your browser. Do I need to reload? Yes. Reload tabs that were already open after you install or update, and pin the extension for quick access. PRIVATE AND OPEN SOURCE No analytics, no accounts, and no developer-operated servers. Your settings stay in your browser's sync storage, which may sync through your browser account.
