Overview

Amazon search, sorted by what's actually good. Sift helps surface the best products first, so you can skip the digging.

Amazon search, sorted by what's actually good. You search for something on Amazon and the first few results are ads, or products with five stars and eleven reviews. Sorting by Avg. Customer Review does not help much either. It just fills the page with perfect scores from a handful of people. Sift is a free add-on for your browser that fixes the order. It looks at every product on the page, gives each one a score, and puts the ones actually worth looking at first. HOW SIFT SCORES A PRODUCT Every product gets a Sift score from the star rating, the number of reviews, and, when Amazon shows it, how many people bought it in the past month. Each product is compared with the others on the same page. Sift trusts a rating more when more people are behind it. 4.6 stars from 4,000 people means more than 5 stars from 8 people, so a product with only a few reviews gets pulled closer to average until more people weigh in. Recent purchases work the same way: a product that thousands of people bought last month counts for more than one nobody is buying. Sponsored products are scored the same as everything else. A Sponsored product with great reviews can come out on top, and one with bad reviews drops to the bottom. Nothing gets a head start for being an ad or for being an Amazon brand. A 4.2 also means different things in different searches. If everything else on the page is a 4.6, a 4.2 is not great. If everything else is a 3.9, it is one of the best things there. Sift takes that into account. More about Sift is at https://ntblabs.dev/sift THE FIVE SORT OPTIONS Sift adds its own dropdown right next to Amazon's "Sort by." Best match is a better version of Amazon's "Featured" order. It weighs each product's Sift score against how closely it matches what you typed, and it keeps some of Amazon's own order, since Amazon knows things about a product that you cannot see on the page. Highest Sift score lists items by their Sift score, so those of higher quality are at the top. Most reviewed and Most bought use a number Amazon shows you directly, so they do exactly what they say. Amazon order turns Sift's sorting off but leaves it installed, so you can switch back and forth and see what changed. WHAT ELSE YOU GET Deep Scan, which loads more pages of the same search and adds them to the list, so a good product on page 4 does not stay buried on page 4. It keeps going until Amazon runs out of pages or you press Stop. Duplicate listings merged into one card. Amazon often lists the same product many times, once for each color or pattern, and every copy shows the same reviews. That fills the page with one product and pushes others down. Sift shows it once, with its variants in a row on the card, so you can still see every option. A choice about Sponsored products. They are always labeled, and you can leave them in normally, gray them out, or take them off the page. A minimum star rating and review count, set automatically based on what is on the page, so you do not have to guess at a number. Anything below it drops under a line rather than disappearing, so everything Amazon showed you is still there and you can see exactly where the cutoff fell. WHAT IT IS GOOD AT Sift works best when you are shopping around. You know roughly what you want and you are looking at a page full of choices. A fleece jacket. A desk lamp. Wireless earbuds. That is where putting the good ones first saves you real time. It also handles searches for one specific item. When you type a model number, an edition, or a size, the products that match it come first, and refills and accessories mostly stay out of the way. It does not always get this right. If you run into a search where Sift clearly gets it wrong, send it to me at hello@ntblabs.dev. Real examples are the most useful for improving Sift. WORKS WITH Chrome on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Chromebooks. Most browsers built on the same foundation as Chrome, including Brave, Edge, Vivaldi, and Arc, installed from this same page. Edge may ask you to allow extensions from other stores the first time. Safari and Firefox are not supported. Amazon.com in English, Amazon UK, Amazon Ireland, and Amazon Australia/New Zealand: everything above. On Ireland and Australia, Most bought is not offered. Amazon Germany, Amazon Canada, and amazon.com in Spanish: Sift Lite, a lighter version that can sort by Most reviewed and Most bought. Other Amazon sites and languages: Sift stays off and leaves the page as Amazon shows it. WHAT SIFT DOES NOT DO It does not change prices. It does not add products, and it does not earn a commission when you buy something. It only takes something off the page when you choose to, like Sponsored products, or when it shows several listings of the same product as one card, which you can turn off. It only works on Amazon search pages and does nothing anywhere else. PRIVACY Sift runs on your own computer, inside your browser. There is no account, no sign-in, and nothing you search for is sent to me or to anyone else. There is no website behind it collecting anything, and no AI involved. It is just math on the numbers Amazon already shows you. The only site Sift talks to is the Amazon site you are on, and only to load more results for the search you already ran. Full privacy policy: https://ntblabs.dev/legal/sift-privacy ABOUT THE SCORES Sift's score is calculated automatically from the star ratings, review counts, and purchase figures Amazon shows. Scores, and any note Sift adds to a product such as "Sift pick," are not recommendations or endorsements by NTB Labs. Sift cannot detect fake reviews and does not verify products or sellers. Use it to decide what to look at, not what to buy. SUPPORTING SIFT Sift is free, has no ads, and makes no money when you buy something. If you find it useful and want to help pay for the work, there is a link on the Sift page at https://ntblabs.dev/sift Completely optional. Nothing in Sift is locked behind it. STATUS This is an early version. Some kinds of products sort better than others, and Sift does not always realize when something is an accessory or a refill instead of the thing you searched for. Email hello@ntblabs.dev if something looks wrong, if a product ends up somewhere strange, or if there is something you think Sift should do. Suggestions help shape what gets built next. Sift supports Chrome and the Amazon sites listed above. Sift is an independent project by NTB Labs. It is not made by, endorsed by, or connected to Amazon.
