SideTrack
Overview
Explain selected AI chat text or send it to another chatbot for a second opinion.
SideTrack helps you follow side questions while reading long conversations. Highlight text, right-click, and open a separate popup to explore the selected passage. SideTrack prepares a prompt in the destination website using your existing browser session, so you can review or submit it without manually copying text. Use SideTrack when a conversation includes a term, code snippet, reasoning step, assumption, or answer that you want to examine more closely. WHAT YOU CAN DO Explain This Ask the current service to explain the selected text in a separate popup. Second Opinion Send the selected text to another supported service for comparison. This can help when you want to check reasoning, clarify assumptions, or see a different response to the same excerpt. HOW IT WORKS 1. Open a supported conversation website in Chrome. 2. Highlight text in the page. 3. Right-click the selected text. 4. Choose “Explain This” or “Second Opinion.” 5. SideTrack opens a separate popup window. 6. Depending on your setting, SideTrack either fills the prompt for review or fills and submits it automatically. 7. The original selected text is highlighted so you can see where the side question came from. 8. If the popup is minimized or behind another window, use the restore marker near the highlight to bring it forward. PROMPT ACTION SETTING SideTrack supports two prompt modes: Inject only: The prompt is filled in and left for you to review. Inject and submit: The prompt is filled in and submitted automatically. The default mode is “Inject and submit.” To change this setting: 1. Open Chrome’s extensions page. 2. Find SideTrack. 3. Open the extension options page. 4. Choose your preferred prompt mode. SOURCE HIGHLIGHTS After a side popup is created, SideTrack highlights the selected source text in the original page. Highlight colors indicate the target service. If a popup is minimized or hidden behind another window, SideTrack shows a small restore marker near the highlighted source text. Click the marker to restore, focus, and bring the popup forward. If multiple popups are created from the same selected text, their restore markers are offset so each one can be restored independently. WHAT SIDETRACK DOES NOT DO • SideTrack does not require an API key. • SideTrack does not call third-party model APIs directly. • SideTrack does not use your clipboard to transfer prompts. • SideTrack does not guarantee that the popup uses the same model as the original page. BEST FOR SideTrack is useful for: • Developers reviewing code explanations • Students studying complex concepts • Researchers comparing responses • Writers clarifying generated text • Power users who work across multiple conversation tools SideTrack gives you a quick way to branch into focused follow-up prompts while staying close to your original reading flow.
