Oh wow, I had completely forgotten I've ever written this extension. Unfortunately, this will stop functioning when Google disables manifest v2 extensions and force everybody to move to the new v3 manifest. I wracked my brain on how to make this work, but in fact it's quite impossible. Besides, it only worked for http, right? not https . And now everything is on https. So expect this to be removed soon. Thanks for using it and finding it useful!
