Shouldn't Wouldn't
Overview
Think Twice Before You Share. Free local reminders before you enter sensitive information.
Shouldn't Wouldn't is completely free. Think Twice Before You Share. There is no account, subscription, license, or paid upgrade. Every reminder in this extension is available to every person who installs it. It is meant for parents and other adults who want a calm reminder, not an alarm. When a page looks like it is asking for something sensitive, the extension shows a short note next to that field. You can dismiss the note. You can keep typing. The extension does not change what you typed and does not take the cursor. It does not block the form; on an insecure or lookalike page it may pause sending once and let you continue. The note is based on the field itself: its type, name, id, autocomplete hint, placeholder, label, and nearby description. Shouldn't Wouldn't does not read what you type into the form. It does not read passwords, card numbers, Social Security numbers, or comments. It only uses those labels to notice that the page is asking. You may see a reminder for a Social Security number, card number, card security code, bank account number, routing number, government ID, passport, driver's license, or password. A milder reminder may appear for an address, phone number, email address, or date of birth. A health or medical field uses the stronger wording. Ordinary fields, including comment boxes, are left alone. Some websites show a Social Security or card number in plain text as you type it. For those numbers (Social Security, card, bank account, routing, government ID, passport, driver's license), Shouldn't Wouldn't shows dots instead, so people nearby or on a screen share cannot read them. Press Show in the note to see what you typed, and Hide to cover it again. This only changes your screen. The website still receives what you enter, and the extension does not read it. If a page keeps removing or covers a reminder, the toolbar button shows "!" for that tab, and the popup says so. Sometimes there is a second note about the page. That happens only for signs the extension can see locally: the page uses an insecure HTTP connection, a form looks like it would submit over HTTP, or the site address is a close lookalike of a well-known name. The extension does not call a phishing-reputation service. It does not say a site is a scam, and it does not say a site is verified or safe. HTTPS by itself does not mean a site is trustworthy. The toolbar popup shows whether protection is on, the site name, whether the connection is http or https, and a plain-language status: No obvious risks, Caution recommended, Strongly indicated concern, or Unable to determine. "No obvious risks" is not a verdict that the website is legitimate. The extension needs access to ordinary websites so the reminder can appear beside the form. It examines field labels and a few page signals locally. The storage permission remembers only whether protection is on or off. Your Privacy Matters. Shouldn't Wouldn't was created to help you and your loved ones browse with greater confidence. We don't read what you type into forms. We don't collect, save, share, or sell your personal information. Form analysis happens locally in your browser. There is no account, no ad, and no payment. Shouldn't Wouldn't cannot guarantee that every website is safe. A website can still hide, cover, or remove a reminder. Websites you choose to submit information to may collect that information under their own privacy policies. Protection can be turned off from the popup. That choice is saved in this browser profile and stays off until you turn it back on, including after Chrome closes. Nothing you type is saved.
