Overview

Capture full page screenshots at up to 16x resolution - or any element or region. Annotate, style and export. Never uploaded.

Shotdex is a full page screenshot and screen capture tool for Chrome. Capture an entire scrolling web page, a single element, or a region you drag - at 2x, 4x, 8x, up to 16x resolution. Most screenshot extensions save what your monitor shows. Shotdex re-renders the page at the resolution you ask for, so text and icons stay razor-sharp when the image is zoomed, printed, or dropped into a Retina landing page. Then it hands the shot to a built-in editor, and never uploads it anywhere. ━━━ WHAT YOU CAN CAPTURE ━━━ • Full page - the entire scrollable document, captured in slices and stitched together, with lazy-loaded images given time to arrive and animations paused so the seams line up. • Viewport - just what is on screen right now. • Element - hover over anything and press the arrow keys to walk out to its parent or back into its children. Capture one card, one chart, one nav bar, one pricing table, with nothing around it. • Region - drag a rectangle over any part of the page. ━━━ HIGH-RESOLUTION SCREENSHOTS BY DESIGN ━━━ • Preset scales: 0.5x, 1x, 1.5x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 6x, 8x - or type any value from 0.1x to 16x. • True device-pixel-ratio rendering through the Chrome DevTools Protocol. This is not an upscale of a blurry PNG. • 4K, 5K and print-resolution screen captures from a normal laptop screen. • Ideal for App Store and Play Store assets, marketing pages, pitch decks, documentation, and bug reports where the details have to be readable. ━━━ KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS THAT KEEP PAGE FOCUS ━━━ Alt+Shift+S - full page. Alt+Shift+F - viewport. Alt+Shift+E - element. Alt+Shift+D - region. (Command+Shift on Mac.) All four are on the right-click menu too. Because the shortcuts never steal focus from the page, you can capture things that vanish the moment you click elsewhere: open dropdowns, hover menus, tooltips, autocomplete lists, context menus. ━━━ ANNOTATE AND REDACT ━━━ • Arrows that bend. Drag the middle of a leg and the arrow turns a corner, so you can point around the thing in the way instead of across it. Corners snap square, so a right angle is something you land on rather than aim for. • Boxes, highlights, step badges for numbered walkthroughs, and a free-form eraser. • Redact - blur or block out an API key, an email address, a customer name, before the image leaves your machine. • Text labels in about 30 fonts already installed on your computer, including handwriting faces that read as a remark about the screenshot rather than part of the interface being shown. • Everything is drawn as vectors at full export resolution. An arrow on an 8x capture is an 8x arrow, not a 1x arrow scaled up. ━━━ A SCREENSHOT EDITOR: BACKGROUNDS, MOCKUPS, SHADOWS ━━━ • Mockups - browser windows (tabbed, compact, minimal), app windows, phones, tablet, laptop and monitor. The browser frames fill in the real URL, title and favicon from the page you captured, with no typing. • Backgrounds - transparent, solid colour, linear/radial/conic gradients, mesh gradients, 10 generated patterns (dots, grid, isometric grid, hexagons, stripes, waves, topographic, blobs, Bauhaus, confetti), and a frosted-glass backdrop made from your own screenshot. Colours are suggested automatically from the shot's palette. • Padding - in pixels or as a percentage, linked or per side. • Frame - corner radius that can inherit the captured element's real corners, up to four layered shadows, borders and an inset highlight. • Canvas - 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9, 9:16, 4:5, a custom size, or one-click targets: OG image 1200x630, X post 1600x900, Dribbble 1600x1200, Product Hunt 1270x760, slide 1920x1080. • Finishing touches - film grain and vignette. • Ten one-click looks: Original, Clean, Dark, Dusk, Sunset, Mint, Spotlight, Framed, Blueprint, Edge. Shuffle until one fits. • Undo, redo, zoom, snapping guides, live preview. ━━━ EXPORT: PNG, JPEG, WEBP ━━━ • PNG, JPEG or WebP, with a quality slider. • Copy the screenshot straight to the clipboard, or download it. • Export scale from 0.1x to 8x on top of the capture resolution. • Transparent backgrounds survive in PNG and WebP. • Filename templates: {mode} {dpr} {date} {title} {w} {h}. • Live output dimensions and estimated file size before you download. ━━━ A LIBRARY THAT KEEPS THE ORIGINAL ━━━ • Editing never touches your capture. The design is saved as a small note beside it, so a screenshot can be restyled a week later from the original pixels, at any resolution or format. • Rename, star, file into collections, search and re-open past captures. • Deleted shots go to Trash for 30 days. • Anything you have named, starred or filed is protected and is never cleaned up automatically. ━━━ YOUR SCREENSHOTS STAY ON YOUR MACHINE ━━━ • No screenshot is ever uploaded. Every capture is rendered and stored on your own machine, in the browser's local database. • The pages you visit, their contents and their URLs are never collected either. • No watermark, on any plan. • Your captures stay local so you can restyle a shot later at full quality - and you can clear them at any time. • Shotdex does need a free account to activate: one email and a password, no card. It carries your licence between machines and lets us reach you for support. You choose at signup whether you want product emails, and every one of them has an unsubscribe link. ━━━ FREE AND PRO ━━━ Free covers the whole workflow: full page, viewport, element and region capture up to 2x resolution, the editor, backgrounds, annotation, the library, and export to PNG, JPEG and WebP. No watermark. Pro raises the ceilings: capture at 3x, 4x, 6x, 8x and any value up to 16x, export scaling on top of that, the full mockup set, custom canvas sizes, saved presets and a larger library. Pro is 5.99 USD a month or a one-time purchase, bought on syntaximos.com - there is nothing to buy inside the extension. ━━━ WHO IT'S FOR ━━━ • Developers filing bug reports where the stack trace has to be legible. • Designers shooting components for portfolios, Dribbble and handoff docs. • Technical writers and support teams building annotated documentation. • Marketers producing OG images, X posts, Product Hunt galleries and app-store assets. • Anyone who has ever zoomed into a screenshot and found mush. ━━━ GOOD TO KNOW ━━━ • Capture uses Chrome's debugger API - that's what makes custom-resolution rendering possible - so Chrome shows a "Shotdex is debugging this browser" banner while a shot is taken. It disappears as soon as the capture is done. • Chrome pages (chrome://), the Web Store itself, and PDF viewers can't be captured. That's a browser restriction, not a Shotdex one. • Very large targets at very high resolution can exceed Chrome's 16384-pixel limit - Shotdex tells you and you lower the scale.
