Shopify Theme Detector
Overview
Instant Shopify theme detector: find Shopify theme name, version and apps on a shop page. Private Chrome extension, no sign-up.
Shopify Theme Detector shows which theme and apps a Shopify store uses. Open a shop, click the extension icon, and the popup shows the theme name, its version, the original design it is based on and the apps installed on the page. No account, no sign-up and no server: everything runs inside your browser, and the theme and app databases ship with the extension. What the popup shows: ➤ Platform check: whether the site runs on Shopify, with a plain message when it does not ➤ Theme name as the owner set it, plus the schema name, version and role ➤ Renamed copies: a based on tag points to the original design ➤ Price, vendor and a link to the theme's official page in the Theme Store ➤ Installed apps with their category, up to 50 rows How to use it: 1️⃣ Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store 2️⃣ Pin it with the puzzle icon in the toolbar 3️⃣ Open a shop and click the icon 4️⃣ Read the result, or press Copy and paste it into a message or a doc How it works. The extension first reads the theme object the storefront publishes and falls back to the page source when that is blocked. The schema name and the theme id from the official catalog reveal the original design even when the owner renamed it. Apps are recognized by signatures bundled with the extension, so nothing is looked up online. Password pages, headless shops and checkout. Some shops hide the answer. A password page keeps the theme hidden, a headless storefront has no theme, and a checkout page is not a storefront. The extension tells these cases apart and explains each in one line, so you know why something is missing. No guesswork. The result shows only what the page itself exposes: its storefront data, its asset paths and the scripts loaded by apps. Names appear exactly as the owner typed them. A build that is not in the official catalog is labeled as a custom theme instead of being matched to the nearest name. Privacy. The extension reads only the tab you clicked on, and only at the moment you click. It uses three permissions: activeTab, scripting and storage, and no host permissions. Your list of recent checks stays in your browser and is never sent anywhere. Small details: • Recent list with the last shops you checked, one click to open again • Copy the result as plain text for a message, a doc or a ticket • Clear messages for checkout pages and closed shops instead of errors • Report wrong detection prepares a ready report in one click Questions and answers Q: How do I see which apps a shop uses? A: Open the shop and click the icon. The popup lists the apps it recognizes, each with its category. Q: Does it detect every app? A: It recognizes apps by signatures bundled with the extension, so a very new or rare app can be missing. Press Report wrong detection and the missing app can be added later. Q: Why does it say Custom or unknown theme? A: The shop runs a build that is not in the official catalog. Q: Can it show the theme price? A: Yes, for themes from the official catalog it shows the price and the vendor. Q: Does it work on any website? A: It answers on Shopify stores. On other sites it says plainly that the site is not a Shopify store. Shopify Theme Detector is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Shopify Inc.
